Fellow KJs, how would you handle this. I admire this KJs resolve. I probably would have caved...

i too would hope that I would have the courage to stick to my principals.

Altho i would have tried to explain it to her.

"How would you feel, if you were just some average singer who thought they had done an adequate performance, and then in the next rotation got upstaged/completely invalidated by a superstar such as yourself?"

Exactly. And who is going to come out week after week - probably not Jewel ;-)

Maybe I need to keep a copy of this for people to read...

I would have had to point out to her that she couldn't sing her own songs as she is on the No Fly List.

But I would have let her sing one way or another.

Probably the label owns her song rights so she didn't make the call.

...Maybe Karen showed up before Jewel and already did those songs.

...As much as I like Jewel, learn the rules!

If someone signs up for a song that's already been sung or signed up for, I'll try to let them know. Whether they sing it or not is up to them, I am not the Karaoke Police.

Agree with frede... I've never told someone that they cannot sing a song just because it's already been sung that evening... I let them know that it's already been sung just in case they arrived later... and 99% of the time, they'll choose another... but if they really want to sing it... it's their turn at the microphone... and their choice.

Did you guys read the "Pegleg" and "Picture" neck stabbing story? Drunk people get a little weird sometimes...

i don;t let duplicates get done. it inevitably turns into a pi$$ing match where the second says they can do it better, then the first hears it and get mad that this person is butchering THEIR song (my response, "it's actually MY song, i bought it :D ) and now that the flood gates are open, here comes number three wanting to show how it's REALLY done..... :bawling:

I would allow dups if:
The new person coming in wasn't there when it was first sang.
The first singer has left.

I'd tell the second person that I'd put it in their que but we wouldn't do it unless the first person left.

If Jewel was standing in front of me at one of my shows she could sing whatever she wants... 8)

Not only would I let her sing whatever she wanted I would also encourage to sing more than once and for as long as she wanted:)
