Does anyone have experience doing this? I was thinking of posting this in the KJ's only section, but this forum gets more views, maybe I'll get lucky and find someone that's done this...
------------------------------------------------
Hi, I'm assisting a bar owner in adding a Sony 400 CD (model Sony CDP-CX455) player to our karaoke system. We use the karaoke CD's with graphics which require the optical output to be used to generate graphics to the CDG decoder, which then puts out a "Video Out" to a female RCA plug.
Anyhow, we have this in place right now with one Sony 400 CD player which works great and we're looking to add in a second CD changer, as our first one is now full.
My problem is, I'd like to have the second player read "Disc 401" instead of "Disc 1."
Does anyone know how to do this? I read the manual on Crutchfield.com and it says you can interconnect the two and I'm guessing that may work. But we have a Digital Karaoke Mixer that enables us to use different input sources and I'd prefer to use this one seperately, with it reading "Disc 401" while in slot 1.
Does anyone have a clue on an "easy" way to do this?!?! I'm lost.
Thanks much in advance for your time.

Actually we can control the two different players, but I was curious if there was a way to reprogram the changer to read "Disc 401" instead of "Disc 1" without having to manually program each disc location. I guess we can do this, but it's going to take some time.

Technically, it shows as changer 2 disk # on the controller (I went and read the manual).
Everything seem pretty straightforward to hook up, it's displayed as (IIRC, page 30, mega controller on the manual).

I read the manual too and from what I saw all the information ya need is in there... it may come down to having to program every disk location and yes that takes time- but that is part of the job... it shows how to connect the two changers and then use the mega controller to operate both... it also shows how to save the disk information labeled however ya want (disk 401+) and how to control it thru the master changer unit... read up on the Advanced Mega Control section and also the Using the Control A1II control system... what you want to do is covered in the above sections... keep on singing- tig

I've used CD "Jukeboxes" for years, both Sony & Pioneer. Like Knightshow said, I've always used switches, A machine, B machine, etc. 2 of my mixers allow switching between 3 machines. I've never done the 401 thing,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
My input is this, how long have you been using the Sony 400? Have you pulled any of your CD's out and looked at them lately? I bought 3 of the 400's when they first came out to replace 3 - 300's. I moved them every gig (we could do a big thread about how to successfully move jukebox players). After about 6 months I started having problems playing Tracks 15+, to a few Cd's out and looked at them and all of them had a scratch ring about 3/8's of an inch from the edge of the CD. Called Sony REPEATEDLY, had over 900 disc's damaged, retired the Sony's and switched to Pioneer 301's. I hope Sony has corrected the problem, I hope your's are working great, but it might not hurt to check your disc's occasionaly.
Hope this helps,
JB

Thanks for the advice JB.
These CD changers are stationary, they don't move. They're only at the one location.
The bar owner used to "lease" a system from a KJ in town who used the Pioneer 300+1 changers and the lower changer was set for 1 - 300 and the upper changer was set for 301 - 600. I thought it would be cool to individually control each one (like the A & B machine scenario mentioned above) and have the newest one that we're adding in be 401 - 800. It's looking like I'll have to do this manually.
Thanks everyone for the input. I figure if you throw the problem out, someone's probably dealt with a similar issue before. I also e-mailed the "support" at Sony, but I doubt they'll have any useful info.

I read with horror on the 3/8" round ring scratches... I got a disc from a retailer that was used... and the outer track was damaged as JB described. Always wondered what did that damage!
Thanks for pointing that out. And here I always thought that the jukeboxes would be perfect as there was less handling damage!!! OMG!

Actually we've ran the 400 changer for a year and a half and haven't really had any problems with the CD's.
Actually I couldn't figure out a good way to change the new changer's numbers, so I just call that changer 1001 for disc 1. 1002 for disc 2, etc.
I figured that would be the easiest way to number them.
Then if we ever expand to a 3rd changer, we can just call it 3001, 3002, etc.
