Post subject:  Transporting your RACK
I'm contemplating re-racking my set up again into a one roling rack set up. Amp / CDG Player / sonic maximizer / wireless mics / mixer on top
You get the idea.. The problem is I would need to transport this set up on its side or back depending on how you look at it ..... Is this OKAY?
I won't be using any type of shock absorbing racks etc. I 'm just wondering if this will cause any damage to the player or other equipment lying on its back or side in the back of my SUV during transport.

Keep in mind I dont plan to do any 4wheeling while I have my equipment in the back...Just normal driving ..few bumps here and there....

Last question Would the answer be the same if I go completely COMPUTERIZED with a racked cpu?? :?: :roll:

I wouldn't transport the players any other way but right side up! Transports could easily get misaligned in transit any other way. The rest of the equipment doesn't matter - no moving parts.

CPU transported right side up as well.

Also applies to refrigeraters, jukeboxes (both oldies and cd), and home entertainment centers (dogs ok) :D Believe me I know.... Also always make sure the cd's are not in the player or cd drive during transport.....

If you are using a standard cpu, transport right side up. If you are using a laptop it doesn't matter, they are made to carry sideways.

I agree with Crystal...All Racks need support during Transport Specially during four wheeling........cant believe a woman beat me to this. crystal..that was the first thing in my mind as well ....lol

Comparing refridgerators to music equipment has no bearing. The reason not to lay a frig on its side is that the refridgeration oil may leech from the compressor. When the compressor starts oil dry its caput.

I've transported my large rolling rack box on its side for years and it never affected the players

So if the players etc need to be transported "right side up" I'm better splitting into (2) smaller rack cases and stacking them ..this way they can be transported properly...... :wink: Except in Crystals post... That type of rack is best on its back ... :D :shock: :oops: :twisted: :twisted:

It's also best to put your amps in a seperate rack from the players anyway - the heat can kill them. Unlike the other type of rack where heat just makes 'em sweaty. :wink:

Hey JAM,

For what it's worth, my rack has been carried by my guys in every position imaginable in the back of vans, station wagons, even trunks. My JVC 303 has never missed a beat, nor has any of the other components, compressor, cordless mic receiver, mixer, etc., exept the time the rack got knocked over during a bar brawl(a big one).I have two full size Odyssey CS4812W Slide Rack(btw, great rack for karaoke) each one does at least two shows a week, often more.

The rule of thumb is as follows, if it's rack mountable, it's designed to be rugged. If it's not, make sure you mount it properly in the rack. Don't just get the cheap single space rack tray from GC. Find a heavy gauge steel double or triple space rack tray(JVC 303 will take up 3 spaces) that can support twice the weight of the player. Take the extra care to mount the player to the tray properly, this can be a pain in the @#$%, but it is crucial. Other than that, the only advice I can give you is to route your wiring wisely and as permanently as possible. Then just Rock on DUDE.
