i guess i'd like to see specific answers / philosophical answers / diverse answers than just the "obvious answer" to this question question: why do people thank us KJs at the end of the night after a show? |

i guess, what i want to know is: exactly what (specifically what) are folks thanking KJs for at the end of a decent or good karaoke night? i should ask a patron/singer one of these days. i'm being serious. for a long time, when i was thanked, i ignored the thanks. because i didn't know what or why folks were thanking me/us for. my style of KJing isn't animated. i don't sing during my shows. i don't venture outside my KJ pit with the mic. i announce people before they sing and ask folks to clap. that's pretty much it. i don't see what people have to go out of their way to thank me or us KJs. unless we're really going outta our way doing stuff. but if there are specific answers why we're thanked, i'll focus on those to keep the thanks coming. |

Well, I've gotten "Thank Yous" from several people for various reasons. Some have said that they really had a good time. Some have said that they liked my library selection. Some have said that they appreciated the attention I gave to them (such as adjusting their sound, or even obtaining their song requests (songs I did not have before) 1 week later). |

i get that a lot at the private clubs (VFW, DAV, Moose, Eagles, Elk) at the end they all thank me and applaud. i take it to mean they had a good time and know it was me leading the way. egocentric maybe, but that's my take. |

A good Karaoke Host will have - for a little while - have taken away the stress and worry of a world of the overcrowded, overcompetitive, overachieving, backstabbing workplace that now exists, and given a chance to recharge as well as giving another more fun-filled view of the world. We also give those who may not stand out in other parts of their lives a chance to shine and build self - confidence. Never under - estimate what we bring to people's lives. |

Maybe because I am a host now, but I thank KJ's more often than I used to when I was only a singer. I appreciate a good music selection, good sound, and a fair rotation. All of that will result in a thank you and usually a tip. |

I usually thank a good KJ with not only a wish but some folding money. The reasons I thank and tip are: 1. I appreciate good equipment. 2. I appreciate a good ear and mix. 3. I appreciate a good crowd. 4. I appreciate on-time starts and efficient use of my time. 5. I appreciate sticking to karaoke and getting people up efficiently. I am not there to listen to recorded music -- I can do that anywhere. I'll always thank them if even one of those are present. If they handle most of them, I tip (usually about $1-$2 per song per person). |

Sarasota is a 3 hour drive from Cocoa Beach and I can guarantee you that I will meet all 5 of your criteria you listed. If you like the "oldies" music then you will have an exceptional experience in a very nice environment. Sarasota is worth the drive anyway.

It is odd you bring this up as I've had people tell me they had an awesome time and I can't think of anything I have done out of the ordinary. But I would have to agree with Joe on the aim of the show. What has always come to mind is a Jimmy Buffett concert where otherwise normal people go crazy for a few hours each year. I want my show to be that escape from reality. And yes--you never know what you have. There are people who look at getting up there to sing like it's a bungie jump that they finally get the nerve to try and then it gives them a certain confidence. I've had two different women tell me that they sing to rebuild their courage after surviving abusive relationships--as in please suggest low register songs as they lost part of their voice from being strangled--that serious. So one element of the show can be "Karaoke Therapy" and even though it is the singer who achieved the goal the overflow will come to the host for providing the opportunity. |

I get thanked every once and a while. More often when I do my once a month show at a mental health social club. |

I am friends with most of the hosts whom I frequent, so at the very least, I tend to say goodbye to them when I leave. I always end up thanking Jasaoke's hype man, as well. If I'm in a strange place, and the show is good, I make a point to thank the host, because I know it can be a thankless gig sometimes, herding drunks to a microphone. |

If I'm being totally honest, if I don't get a few thank yous, hugs, handshakes, great jobs, etc throughout the course of the evening or after the gig it bothers me. I work very hard at providing a fun, energetic and entertaining show and it rattles my confidence if nobody notices. I have rarely had this happen and I think it's directly related to my personality as a host. I am always encouraging and giving compliments to my singers and they love it. Most singers have big egos (me included) and it's nice to be recognized. I treat the audience the same way. If they are dancing and/or singing along I take notice and announce it. The more people I can connect with, the better my show will be. We give "happy applause" at all of our shows for each performer. Golf claps are not allowed. It's the vibe. High energy and smiling faces. It's what I get paid for. Thank yous, great job, tips, etc are the reward for a job well done. I feed off it:) |

I also get thanked. Regulars don't leave without saying goodbye. It's usually accompanied by a handshake or a hug. |

KJs don't realize how a little personal encouragement from us, a little personal attention from us goes a LONG way good or bad, all singers need to be complimented for real. i encourage my bad singers even through tough songs. i need to hear applause after every singer |
