I'm currently using a pair of Vocopro 10" speakers (vocal only) in combination to my home theater speakers as music. Moving to a new place and would like something a little lower profile so I can put it on the wall. My amp is similar to the vocopro DA-3700 except that it has 4 mic inputs. I believe it's rated for 200wx4 which should match the JBL speakers well i think. never used a line array before but heard a friend's bose line array for karaoke and it sounded great. http://www.adorama.com/JBLCBT50LA1W.html |

The JBL CBT 50LA-1 is not a load music speaker. It is for general speech with mixed music. http://www.jblpro.com/www/products/inst ... BHcSfldWSo Power Capacity (8 ohm setting) 150W (600W peak), 2 hrs 100 W (400W peak), 100 hrs And without much power handling capacity and would need a sub to get the bass right. |

That amp (similar to the DA3700) isn't really going to sound good with any speaker - It only gives a 'max' output rating of a 100 watts into 8 ohms which means it's probably pushing closer to 50 watts program - which is less than most home stereo systems today. What is the goal you are trying to achieve. These JBL speakers really need an amp that pushes 300 watts clean program power - you can easily blow a speaker not providing 'enough' power believe it or not. |

Hey Lon, Why is it so difficult to convince people that not enough power can cause just as much, if not more damage to speakers than too much power? I've been telling people this for years, which usually results in the "Yeah, right" look. Trying to push an amp with too little power often results in distortion... and distortion kills both speakers and ears. |

Typically, an amp should power a speaker with 1.5 to 2 times the speaker's rated *continuous* power rating. ie if speaker is 100 watts continuous at 8 ohms, the amp should be capable of delivering 150 to 200 watts continuous at 8 ohms. You're likely damage a speaker sooner if it's underpowered rather than overpowered. Overpowering allows for a couple dB of headroom. Check out any of these monitors. You can put them on a shelf or on a nice looking stand: http://www.sweetwater.com/shop/studio/studio-monitors/ |

I take it a step further and go into a room with double of what I think it might need. I take 400 matched into a living room that I think could be covered with 200. That way NOTHING gets pushed too hard. |
