Hi,

looking at buying my first compressor and i am torn between the dbx266xlv and the dbx166xlv.There is a big price difference between the two.Bearing in mind that i only ever do a few gigs a year(good ones though) which would you recommend and why.Ease of use and durability come first to my mind.

Thanks for any help.

The dbx 266XL Compressor/Gate. I took Lonman's advise and bought the dbx266 @ $149.95 from Guitar Center. A fine piece of equipment with dual input capabilities. Easy to use and very effective.

The dbx 166XL Dual Compressor Limiter. The dbx166 is currently priced at $249.95

They are both good units. The 266XL is a nice compressor which basically mellows out your vocal signals. The 166XL has a peak stop limiter built in which is very nice because you can set it at a particular point & the volume won't go over that point.

Either one will work well over all.

Great! One final little thing. When you say it has dual input capabilities,(and from its pictures i can see two mic ins/outs),does this mean that either unit will cope with the simultaneous compression of two singers singing or is that the purpose of the dbx1066 with 2 channels, which of course costs a lot more?

2 independant microphones can be used on the dbx166/266
