My daughter and her husband were recently let go from an establishment because of "cut backs." The same establishment then hired akj/dj that does all karaoke via YouTube. What are your thoughts on that? Alot of patrons are not happy.

First, the YouTube karaoke person is probably working for a lot less so it will be difficult to convince the owner to change their mind
Second, the YouTube videos are most likely not licensed to be on YouTube in the first place.

Beyond that, all you can do is warn the establishment that the host they are using could put them in a position of liability if the rights holders or the karaoke producers come sniffing around.

In reality, you probably won't be able to make anything change. People just don't care enough.

Not only does no one care about it, nobody can stop it if YouTube doesn't enforce it. Plus you can easily get software to download the videos and put them on your hard drive.

buy a wifi/Bluetooth/cell jammer and place it near the new hosts computer so it cuts his connection to the internet during his performances.

it's only a couple hundred dollars and will make the new host look bad if he cant run his show.

I'm sure my daughter and her husband won't be going back there any time soon.

I have done that exactly three times, but not for Karaoke. I have done it if I exhaust every other avenue to find a DJ song. I would never do it for karaoke. If I am DJing, I am the only one who sees the screen.

I've only gone to U-Tube to preview a song to go buy it from a good place.

I don't get using YouTube. So amateurish. Here is an actual email I got yesterday from a client. I usually do her party every year, but was already booked this time around.

He used a lot of YouTube for the songs which meant there were these dreadfully long pauses between songs. There were other things that were missed too. Maybe you can give me a list of the things to look for in a good Karaoke DJ?

Myself I wouldn't even respond to them.

Ha! That does look weird doesnt it!

In another earlier email she wanted to book more events and I told her that she's just too far away (three hours one way) and I couldn't justify the cost anymore (truth be told, I was just damn tired of the drive!). That's why she wanted my advice. Shes a great lady, just wish she was closer.

Obviously, Youtube karaoke is ridiculously stupid. A person would be too chicken to use anything else. Yes,I think it's very ameture abd immature.

The quality of the tracks is hardly suitable for download, and completely unreliable. I can hardly believe that someone is actually doing that. I'm afraid I would have to say something to the karaoke community in general about that.

At this point, every major singer, KJ, and karaoke producer in my area is on my Facebook friend's list (Bob Latshaw for example).

If people refuse to go to this loser's show, the bar owner will change his mind. Its really up to the crowd.

if people refuse to go, but the reality is most really couldn't care less as long as they can sing their song.
we would care, but a majority don't. it's really sad.

True...

And, the other thing that could happen... If people refuse to go, the Venue will cancel the karaoke and say to other KJs (who are trying to sell their services) that it just didn't work out.

I just had the same thing happen to me. I was told they had to cut their entertainment budget,so they were cutting karaoke. Come to find out from one of my followers they still had karaoke but the guy was putting up You Tube videos for the stuff he didn't have. Kinda surprising since I never had a lot of luck with the venue's Wi-Fi connection. Guess I got undercut on my price, since this guy doesn't have anywhere near the equipment, selection or investment I have. I hated that show anyway!!

I have seen that twice here in the West Central Florida area. One guy was using Karafun, and the other Karaoke Channel.

got two using Karafun. One just used Karafun streaming while the other used Youtube for songs she didn't have access to on Karafun's library which is quite large. It's the same library that Karaoke-Version has.

There is no reason why you CAN'T use Karafun for shows, as long as you don't use their music. It even says you can use the program in the TOS. I used to use it, before I went with PCDJ Karaoki. I didn't like it cause it was too slow and was missing a lot of the features I wanted.
