are you talkin' about downloading mp3s or mp3gs?

I converted my extensive cd library to mp3 ... and my extensive library to mp3g! nothing downloaded here.

I do have some downloaded tracks, but I don't use them for my shows!

What type of DJ work are you looking at ?

Mobile DJ - ( Weddings, Parties, Events)

Club /Dance ?

I suggest if you are just building your library you're better off buying compilation Cd's , greatest hits , Sets of top hits , 50's /60's/70's /etc.

I do use I-tunes for downloading some current hits where I don't want the entire cd for $17, I'll download the single song for the $0.99.

good luck

Knight I think when cd are copied to windows media player they are converted to wma files ?? don'y know the difference between mp3 and wma....yes I'm doing private parties all kinds from xmas to weddings, birthdays etc. I presently have about 500 good songs, I would like to have about a 1000..I'd like to cover more pop, rock, hip-hop etc. I live and work in east Texas, what I have now is 90 percent country. I like to look at billbord and buy the hits, is this a good idea , or what should I be doing...

There are several subscription services available to DJs, including Promo Only and ERG. I subscribe to ERG's "Nu Music" line - it is issued every 2 weeks and contains about 20 tracks - pop, urban, dance, country, rock. It has paid for itself many times over. There are full monthly specialty lines for these genres and others (Latin/Tropical, Latin/Mexican, Contemporary Christian, etc.), but I've found the Nu Music line to pretty much cover the bases for my needs - most "must haves" appear on it, often before they really take off. Promoonly.com and ergmusic.com can provide more info. Promo-Only's "Mainstream Radio" is a monthly series that also covers multiple genres to a more limited extent.

For older material (oldies, disco, motown, classic rock, etc.), I'd recommend selected compilations from local stores like Walmart, Best Buy...

I wouldn't discount the download options too, but getting a disc in the mail every two weeks is easy and has worked nice for me. When you subscribe, you may also be offered a bonus (ERG does a 15 bonus disc with Nu Music - I picked up the last 7 months of their two Latin series to stay relatively current with those).

Good luck.
