Hey,

I'm completely clueless here. So, my family owns a bar in Oregon and we were going to do karaoke and then our manager decided against it. The thing is, my dad ordered the whole Sound Choice Gem series package with the 6000 songs etc. for 5k and now doesn't know what to do with it. Not a disk has been used and we even have the contract that can be signed over apparently to a new user. He will sell it way cheaper, he just wants to get rid of it but I'm not sure how to market it. Is there even a need for this package in particular? Any info would help :)

{edit}Your family owns the bar? But has a manager that over rides the owner? Sounds like a new manager is in order IMO!

Once you find a buyer, you must contact Sound Choice to notify them of the sale so they can transfer the license to the new buyer.

Yup, caught that too.

Also, just saw a closed sale of the GEM set on E-bay. Was 5k originally, they were asking 1k. I don't know what it actually sold for.

You will have no problem selling your set, if you haven't already.

The bigger questions is why?! Why not try a karaoke night?

What's the rush?

Especially when you might be talking about a 2-3K loss on the discs!

Thanks for feedback, I hope it is easy to sell....he doesn't mind taking the loss, so if there is any interest, I know he said he would sell it for 3k.

Again out of curiosity, you family own the bar? But doesn't have a say in it due to a hired manager? The manager works for the owner and usually if an owner wants something it's the managers job to implement it.

My dad doesn't care either way, like I said, they are making the pub more of a family establishment and not staying open late and having a dj or kj on the weekends anymore.

Ok, this bar manager issue aside, can't your father just call Kurt and explain the situation and send the set back, and get a refund?? Something just doesn't sound right, here, and for some reason I smell fish.

Family karaoke nights are more popular than ever, why not give it a shot? Run it from 6-10 with dinner specials & drinks (kid friendly) specials? I've done family nights throughout the years & they go over very well, just poor management killed the places usually.

I smell nothing as they haven't stated they tried to return it.

We are not able to get our money back, only sign over our contract. I think family Karaoke nights would be fun, my parents are in their mid 60's and wanting to sell our pub soon actually, so they can move to Portland to be with their grandkids. I'm just wondering the best way to go about selling it, I'm hoping eBay works but are there any other sites that sell this type of thing?

There's also Craigslist.org, but you have to be careful of possible scammers. The main thing you have to keep in mind, is that SC must be informed of who you are selling this GEM set to. If it is someone who SC is currently suing for Copyright Infringement, then they probably won't allow you to sell it to that person.

I thought only people that had an actual Karaoke Business could buy the Gems.
I was my understanding that the business had to be "Verified" by SC.
How did this person even buy the set if they didn't have an operating karaoke business to start with?
How can they just sell to anyone without SC "Verifying" that the new owner is a karaoke business?

Have the rules changed and anyone can now own the Gems?

I think that before you advertise them for sale you check this out. I wouldn't want you to sell them and then find out you violated your contract by selling to just anybody!

Thanks for the input and suggestions. I'm not sure, we do know that the series can be transferred though if notarized and properly signed, my stepdad has inquired about that. We were able to purchase the series, we've always had dj's, bands, etc. in our pub and now I guess they are just going a different direction apparently :)

I don't know if chris avis is expanding his business at the moment, but you could always send him a pm and ask. Other than that, ebay would be a good place because with paypal both the buyer and seller are protected.

IF all else fails, I don't know if soundchoice would be willing to accept me, as I currently don't have any gigs, but I'd love to have a set if your father would be willing to work out a payment schedule

good luck

-James

To buy a GEM you have to be a karaoke host or own a bar/club that have/will offer karaoke - such as they have. Nothing has changed there. It just cannot be sold to home users.
SC does have to be in the loop of the sale so they can transfer the license to the new buyer. They will not approve a sale to a home user.

I wish I could afford to spend $3K right now. I'm doing a summer replacement gig for a small bar with a Cavs system, I hate. My library is only 3K and to add the SC would be so cool.

You might give KJAthena here on the forum a try as well. I believe that she is in the process of expanding...
