And now for a less serious, non-techie question: Have you ever pulled (girls or boys) at a Karaoke night? And if so, how did it happen? And what was the end result??! All stories welcomed! DJ Mean Al. |

All stories welcomed! DJ Mean Al. When I was a kid, I was often fooled into pulling, by an older relative, but now, I'm the one getting my finger pulled by my grandkids.....no matter how big a fart I let go, they keep falling for it.....sometimes 2 or 3 times in the same day........ |

I typically pull the door, where appropriate. When the bartender hands me a beer, I pull it towards my mouth. I pull the mic away from the mic stand. This is a blast from the past. "Pull" is 90's speak for meeting someone and taking them home. "Pulling" them out of the bar. And yes, obviously KJs get all the chicks. |

Uh, yeah. My first experiences with karaoke were all about the social aspect of it. About 12 years ago I moved from NYC to Colorado. A co-worker suggested we go to a local restaurant/bar where the people who lived year round in this resort area would gather. I have always been outgoing and friendly and some would say, rather fit (those who would use the term "pull" would certainly understand "fit"). To my surprise, my karaoke performance(s) broke the ice and gave interested parties something to talk to me about or even just a glimmer of who this "new guy" is. I met my current girlfriend at my show, 2 years before we got together. We've been together over 5 years now. She loves karaoke and often acts as my assistant, though I do all the heavy lifting. She doesn't come to every single show anymore (I average 4 a week), but she is an outstanding performer and everyone who knows me, knows that we are a couple. Suffice to say... I don't "pull" at my karaoke shows anymore... btw - the term pull is apparently a British term as I've learned from binge-watching the British series "Shameless" on my Hulu+ account. |

Yes indeed, I have to confess that I am from the UK. And absolutely, "to pull" means to pick someone up and take them home for a fun night of... whatever!! Al. |

In my younger days, absolutely. The better you can sing, the better your chances. Hot women are not impressed by a poor performance, at the bar or later |

It's "Pick up" in the US. No, but I had many offers from all sorts of ladies. Ladies go for a guy that is a fun entertainer who can talk and dance with them without it seeming like a pick up line. Throw in a, "no sorry, I am married" and it drives them nuts. One night a young lady approached me. "I said, no I am married and that's my wife over there". She came back with, "She can come too" My wife wasn't as amused as I was.. |

I have been propositioned a few times by women who wanted to "pull" me home with them. But if I tried to "pull" a lady my wife would probably pull her hair out.... |

"Pulling" in public is illegal in Canada. |

I think you are thinking about yanking or wanking or spanking (the monkey). Sounds like a good start to a Dr. Seuss parody. |

I have never pulled per se, but on occasion have had a gathering of female "fans" of my singing. I am very shy, so don't know how to react, so nothing comes of it. I am a lot more confident on stage singing karaoke than in practically any other situation. |
