While not technically karaoke, it IS a music problem/question that MAY me useful to others, so I thought I could post it here for maximum exposure- if that's OK.
I could probably help another with this question, but not myself, as I'm too close.
I am a close friend of a Mother/daughter family- the daughter calls me Uncle Joe, and refers to me as her favorite uncle.
She is getting married( 3rd time) shortly, and I have been honored to be asked to give her away. Her father is alive but estranged.
She has asked my help in choosing our dance song, because she wants it to be meaningful to both of us.
The thing is, unlike my dance with my daughter, I feel that my selection has to be something outside the norm because she is not MY daighter. IMHO, the standard Father/Daughter songs don't really apply, and would make me feel uncomfortable. This limitation leaves me somewhat flummoxed.
She has asked for something less than current/modern, as she knows my tastes well enough to guess that I would lean that way as well, and truly wants me to feel the song as well..
I humbly ask for suggestions from my karaoke brethren.
Of course, any song that I choose will be approved by her as well, so I will probably give her 3-5 songs and see how she feels.
Thanks in advance for any light that you might shine...

Though I personally am not crazy about the song (too much play), I would probably go for "That's What Friends Are For".

Just find a song that pertains to you and this girl. I did a wedding like that, where the father wasn't there, but there was a stand in that they girl was close to, and HE picked a song that represented kind of relationship. Unfortunately, I don't remember what song it was. I got rid of my notes from that one.

My Wish is a good one. Doesn't sound like a step father situation, otherwise I'd say He Didn't Have To Be by Brad Paisley.
You've Got A Friend by James Taylor is another.
By the way, the best source for all event songs is wedj.com. The song suggestions are on the left.

I agree. Stepfather to Daughter: Rascal Flatts’ My Wish. Just wishing her the best of everything & to lead a happy life. Daughter to Stepfather: You Raise Me Up by Josh Groban, about someone who inspired her & made her a better person. Both songs, no references to a father which makes them good choices. And for the real stepdads, (might as well mention it) I like Stepfather of the Bride by Mike McLaughlin. Lyrics: https://www.weddingwire.com/wedding-for ... 04bda.html

Geez, I love this forum. Great Suggestions! Milo's suggestion of "My Wish" has gotten so much agreement that I'm gonna have to give it a re-listen, as I don't remember it.
Just awesome, folks...

I hope it works out! My niece recently got married and almost all the songs played at the reception were by Rascal Flatts. This one really stuck out to me.
And yeahhh, I got a "like"!
