Post subject: | Upgrading a karaoke System |
I just bought an Acesonic KOD-3000 player and would like to build around it. I also have purchased a Sennheiser EW 135 G3. Now my old stuff are: Vocopro KJ-6000 (needs an upgrade) and a pair of beaten up BMB CS 500 speakers. Im looking at buying a Yamaha DXR8 speaker and upgrade my mixer to Yamaha MG82CX. Will this improve my system a lot? My goal is to just make people's singing voice sound much better ( you know what I mean...) Any suggestions? |

Is this for a home system or pro use? The Yamaha DXR8s are great speakers, and would definitely upgrade your sound, but they have 8" woofers, so they won't have very good bass response, and are really designed to be supplemented with a subwoofer. That said, the 8" Yamaha DXR8 woofer will still probably have better bass response than those 10" BMB speakers you have, just because they handle much more power, so if you were happy with the bass response of your current speakers, you should be happy with the low end of the DXR8s. The mids (vocal range) and highs of the DXR8s will blow your current speakers away in their detail. The Yamaha MG82CX is also a great mixer. It would be a big upgrade over the Vocopro KJ-6000. Both would be great upgrades over your current system! Good luck! |

One more question TopherM. The Yamaha DXR8 speaker has an xlr input, will it be better for me to get a mixer with an xlr output instead? What are your mixer recommendations? |

What are your mixer recommendations? you can get cables with various connections like xlr to 1/4 phone would be the choice I would make if the outputs of the mixer is 1/4 phone (the one that looks like your headset's connector of a good pair of headphones meant for a home stereo). |

A Lot of mixers use "mini" XLR connectors better know as 1/4" TRS connectors ( stereo 1/4" ) to do the same thing but cheaper. So an adapter is all you need. |

My package delivered today. I got my Yamaha MG124cx, 1 Yamaha DXR8, Sennheiser EW 135 G3. Took me awhile before I finally got a good audio output from these units. I have also used my old gears: BMB DX213 amplifier with a pair of BMB CS 500 speakers. Everything sounds good together. I only need to save for a sub (Yamaha DXS). My Acesonic KOD 3000 is awesome despite having spent 2 weeks loading it with 25,000 CDGs. The Yamaha mixer is a little too much for me to learn in a single day as I havent even been comfortable with my old Vocopro KJ-6000 which I have to kick out (just a terrible piece). |
