Post subject:  Bit Rate of SCDG

I have a handful of SCDG's that I have picked up in my bulk buys. I have never tried ripping one and don't think I really need to since the content is duplicated on other CD+G discs I have already ripped.

But I am curious about the bit rate for the SCDGs. Seems these would have to be compressed to less < 128k to fit so many tracks onto a single disc.

Anyone know what the bit rate is for tracks on SCDG's?

On the Chartbuster SCDG's they are 128k. On the DK SCDG's the are 192k. At lease in my case they are. I used the Power SCDG Ripper.

It varies. Much like a MP3+G's on a Data CD, the bit rate is not a function of the SCDG medium itself, but the decision of the disc's author.

I guess the point I am trying to make is that SCDG rips are typically going to have a lower bit rate and likely not even be capable of 320k rips given that they are compressing to fit as much on the disc as possible.

It seems that is the standard practice, true. But it has nothing to do with them being SCDG's. For example, the GEM series on CD-ROM could have been half the number discs if they were 128k. It's a choice the manufacture made.

they are ripped on a dvd data disc so they can use up to 9 gigs of space for the songs unlike a cd that's less then 1 gig...

CAVS sells Sampler SCGDs (or gives them away with qualified purchase). Those are 48kbps.
