Before anyone answers, I can tell you that realistically, with the market being the way it is for karaoke, you could probably hire a host for about the same price as you could rent a system, and have the added benefit of the host's personality, expertise with their equipment, and likely more expansive song library and better equipment. Last I checked, it was a good $150-200 to rent a very average system with a 5,000 song library. Depending on how long your party is, time of day, number of people, etc., I know a good number of good karaoke hosts that would work 3-4 hours on a weekday night or weekend afternoon for an average-sized party of 20-30 people for that same $$$. I personally do about 7-8 gigs a year matching this description, mostly backyard birthday party type deals for friends and patrons of my regular bar gig. If that's the kind of thing you had in mind, post a Craigslist ad in your town with the details. I bet you have 5-6 responses within 48 hours. If your question is, should you get into the rental business, I personally would stay away from it for the same reasons above. Very saturated market right now, lots of competition in towns of any decent size. |

Hi Topher, I've been in business for about 2.5 months now and I've already booked 17 parties (at about $220 per rental), so business is pretty good so far. Having a host would have been pretty awkward at just about all of them (mostly bdays in private residences...), I think hosting and renting are two totally different businesses, but that's just me... So any other renters or am I the only one?? |

I think it really depends on how much you rent and for how long. This isn't the best system on the market by any means but it beats a kmart special all to hell and back. http://www.doowopmusicshop.com/RENTAL-S ... kepack.htm It's $51 for a week. They show a decent PA for $52 a week but you'd also need a player and brick or two. Then the number gets to be around $120. The kicker for me is I never did private karaoke shows for less than $300 and the usual rate for four hours was $450. so there is a good bit of range difference between rental and host. I am sure mileage varies per location. |

I used to do rentals. The problem I had with the rental side of the business is all of the equipment I sent out was decent stuff. I'd get the system back and I can't tell you how many times the music volume at all points was full blast, sometimes the lows and mids were all the way up, too. How the system never blew is beyond me. Anyway, I gave up doing rentals. Although the money I made certainly would have paid for a new system, it just wasn't worth the anguish. |

I had a contract drawn up for rental once due to a request but never went thru with it. I certainly would never rent out my current system. It would have to be a cheap set up with decent sound, due to the roughnecking that would go thru. Or a combo of cheap and tough. I don't think it would be profitable in my current area, would need a highly dense population and be able to rent out 4at least 7 or 8 a week as the wear and tear rate would be high! Doesn't sound like fun to me so,,,,, |

I would have to agree about the fact theta you better kiss your equipment goodbye. Just make sure it's bought from Walmart or you are going to be very sad.. |

I've got little screws blocking how high the volume can go so I'm not worried about my amp and speakers... Mics seem to be getting a lot of wear though, but as long as they last about 20 gigs (18 each so far), I'm happy. |

We remember someone renting and having to drive 25mins to the east side to help them when they said the system did not work and we arrived to a party of all drunk people and they simply turned something off. (side thought). Most rental systems we see are substandard and range in the $50-$99 range. We do have an option to rent an all in one system for $50 as well. Have yet to break back into the rental side. My knowledge is from prior experience. |
