I would like to take my up-until-now stationary system to a few traveling gigs.
I have:
an RSQ DP 202 amp
a JVC XL MV303 (triple tray) player
a Mackie DFX 12 mixer

I would like to add:
a single tray player for in-between singers (any suggestions?)

I was looking at throwing the whole kit and caboodle into a Gemini MRC6 case, but I do not know jack about dj cases, rack spaces, and/or if my components will fit nicely into this unit.
Another thing: if this is a "good" case, what hardware would I need to put it all together?
Any input/suggestions from all you experts out there would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!!

I'll leave the bulk of your questions to others more qualified to answer.

For a single tray player I'd probably go with an RSQ/JVC 222. Just like my triple tray which I love but slimmed down to the single tray.

FYI - most equipment is defined in the amount of space it takes in U. Racks are marked the same way so you know if it will all fit. BTW, computer equipment is set up the same way.

None of your equipment is really "rack mountable". However, I've used rack shelves and adapted some equipment to work. I've unscrewed the rubber feet from the bottom of a player, gotten longer screws to go through the rack shelf, drilled holes and mounted the player to the shelf. One suggestion would be 2 cases, 1 for your amp and 1 for the rest of your equipment. That way you won't end up with 1 large, heavy case to move and transport. SKB and others make cases in a variety of sizes, do a search for rack mount cases.

Rocky, Since your gear will need universal type rack shelves, You will need more spaces than you anticipate by just measuring the rack spaces that components alone will require.

Its always a good idea to leave a decent space between certain components like amps and players.

If I were you I'd pick up a twin tray cd player. It will provide you the option of mixing dj music for a dance set at holiday parties.

Thanks for all your input!! It's nice to have somewhere to take my dilemmas!!

I knew I did not have "rack-mountable" equipment, but knew a KJ who had the same player mounted in a case (he has since moved to Washington, somewhere <sigh>). So I knew it could be done, just the how's eluded me, and my favorite KJ did a relocation act.

Now, can somebody tell me the inch equivalent to one rack space? Is it a 2" to one space ratio?

Good idea about the amp and being separate for weight requirements!! Some cases alone can be back-breakers, and then you add equipment on top of that, oh my. . .

I originally was looking at the SKB's, but had read some posts somewhere that the lower end cases did not seem to hold up well with heavy travel?

So I can buy rack shelving then? Like from some of the more popular music equipment sites? And use the drill for some minor modifications? Cool! I can handle that.

For the single tray, I liked the idea of another cdg player. It would keep the show rolling if the triple tray decided to crater. And with a bit of practice, I think I could still fade between the two players when doing a dance party.
Has anyone had any luck with the RSQ DVD combo players?

I am still shopping and doing my homework like a good girl.

Rack Space 1 - 19"W x 1.75"H x 4"D
Rack Space 2 - 19"W x 3.50"H x 4"D
Rack Space 3 - 19"W x 5.25"H x 4"D
Rack Space 4 - 19"W x 7.00"H x 4"D
Rack Space 5 - 19"W x 8.75"H x 4"D
Rack Space 6 - 19"W x 12.25"H x 4"D

You will always find pro's and con's to anything. SKB's are professional quality used by many professional travelers. The construction is good with good quality material. 100 people will agree with me, and another 100 won't agree. You mentioned heavy travel, define that and throw $$$'s into the equation, then decide for yourself what to buy!

The rack shelving can be bought from your local Guitar Center. Be aware that there are weight limitations to these shelves, and don't faint when you see the prices :? And yes, Velcro strips (keep your cables neat), some cable binders and a drill come in very handy when setting up your box. Don't forget the power strips, and think carefully about how you want it, before you mount it. Also as big jimmy c said, Its always a good idea to leave a decent space between certain components like amps and players. . There's a lot of heat generated with the equipment, and you don't want to boil anything in there!

I suggest 2 single trays instead of a dual or triple tray. If 1 player fails, you still have the other. Should your double tray machine fail,.......it;s time to go home

Here some more really handy things for your case:
The Pull-Out Shelf fits any Rackmount Case, and provides a convenient tray that slides out of the way when not in use. Using just one rack space, the Pull-Out Shelf features a padded, Velcro top to secure your equipment, and mounts quickly and easily using standard rack mount hardware.

also a good idea to put the amps in the bottom of the rack for stability.

Hey Allstar. The reason I mentioned "Velcro Straps" is that my system is full of non rack-mountable units. I first bought and mounted a rack shelf near the bottom of the rack , then I took some velcro pieces and stuck the feet of my amplifier to the shelf , then I wraped two heavy duty velcro straps (with adjustable buckles) one towards the front of the amp ,and one to the rear. and tightened them down....NOT TOO TIGHT! then as I added equipment up the rack...I repeated those steps...that was about 5 years ago , I've loaded and unloaded that full rack (with 400 disks in the Sony changer) many , many times without a single problem. it's solid as a rock brother! :D

No doubt about your wisdom there DennDogg! Thanks for your valueble input! Here's some useless information to entertain your friends with.

One lovely summer day in 1948, a Swiss amateur-mountaineer and inventor decided to take his dog for a nature hike. The man and his faithful companion both returned home covered with burrs, the plant seed-sacs that cling to animal fur in order to travel to fertile new planting grounds. The man neglected his matted dog, and with a burning curiosity ran to his microscope and inspected one of the many burrs stuck to his pants. He saw all the small hooks that enabled the seed-bearing burr to cling so viciously to the tiny loops in the fabric of his pants. George de Mestral raised his head from the microscope and smiled thinking, "I will design a unique, two-sided fastener, one side with stiff hooks like the burrs and the other side with soft loops like the fabric of my pants. I will call my invention 'velcro' a combination of the word velour and crochet.

Check out PARTS EXPRESS (.com) and do a search on SHELF there... ignore the speakers, but you'll see some 1U and 2U shelf units that are VERY reasonable in price.

Be aware of the weight limitations like Allstar mentioned!
