Post subject:  Where's that "Chartbuster" sound nowadays?

I use to use Chartbuster for paractically ALL of my country backing tracks (mostly the mp3 versions with background vocals), because I found them to be the closest to the original artist's sound than anywhere else. But since they've caved, I wonder where to find that same quality? I've yet to try Digitrx since it appears ya gotta pay $10/month to use them. Did they retain the quality sound that Chartbusters had? And they sure don't appear to have near the count of George Strait songs availale in their library as Chartbusters did. Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance

Digitrax would be who you'd want for the 'Chartbuster' sound. The $10 is if you want to join their streaming service (for home use only), otherwise you can sign up for free to download (for kj use) on a per song basis. They do not have the entire library as of now as they are getting appropriate licensing for each song and they now offer tracks from SBI, DK, Sunfly and a couple others if I recall, they are adding more each month.

Thanks Lonman.... it was 3 years ago I enquired information on here and you came to my aid first. I appreciate your reply. Can you provide a link where I enter the free download per song basis with Digitrax? For some reason I find their access not very user friendly.
Thanks

Correct me if I am wrong but anyone can sign up for free and anyone can purchase tracks (not just KJs). They do have the pro service but that doesn't mean the average person could not buy tracks straight from the site.

Chartbuster recorded all of those great country tracks at Big Mama Studios in Seymour, TN.

DigiTrax just started their own new production karaoke tracks with March releases, but they record at Gold Record studios in Fort Wayne, Indiana, so they're likely using completely different equipment, studio musicians, sound engineers, etc. than Chartbuster used to, so their tracks are at least guaranteed to be different. If anything, the DigiTrax production operation seems to be larger with more resources and more diverse equipment options than Big Mama's.

I would check out some of the DigiTrax country tracks and see for yourself. Who knows, they might be good, might be crap.

Yes.... I just want to be able to select one song if I want, select the format I want, buy it, and then download it.... just that simple... where's the link to do that? Seems that wne I select a song to hear a sample it re-directs me to pay $10/month. I need a link to get to select songs, buy, and lownload. HELP :)

I do not think they have samples yet. If you click a song not in the free category, it will expect you to pay to listen to the entire track. I think they are working on the samples.

So pay just to "listen" to a song.... that sucks. They gotta do better than that. :?

I think they are working on getting samples up there. They are relatively new and still developing things. With the pay you can actually use the songs without "purchasing" them in a streaming format. It was never intended to be used to sample, per sey.

I think you misunderstood. You can sign up for free. You have to pay $1.99 per song that you wish to select/purchase as a download. I believe there was a mention of a small selection from their Free Library, but I haven't heard anyone state whether or not it was created at the same bit rate as the tracks meant for professional use were. Just go to www.karaokecloud.com

I understand.... don't think at the moment I am interested in streaming anything. I just want to purchase and have it available as a stored file for my use. I appreciate the input Mrboo.
And thanks cueball.... yes, I did understand you can sign up for free, but I never saw anywhere where the songs were $1.99 purchase and download. Maybe I was in the wrong place on the site. Let me go to the cloud link like you said.

I just meant the downloads are for kj use as well.

Once you are signed up and logged in, you will see by the songs a 'purchase' link - click that, the song adds to your cart, click the cart it will show the breakdown with total price. They are supposed to be working on smaples, but they do now at least have the manufacturer column.

Topher,

Not sure where you got your information. DigiTrax is located in Knoxville, TN. As I stated in an earlier post we have cut 100 new tracks since Jan. so we were started prior to March. Our recording studios are on site. If you have any questions please just feel free to ask.

I just wanted to let you know.

Sorry, my mistake. I confused Digitrax with Digitracks in my research:

http://www.digitracksrecording.com/

So Digitrax records in TN? Am I correct that you use a different studio than ChartBuster used to?

Yes we are in TN. We do not have the same studios or office that Chartbuster had. Different musicians as well.

That is not entirely true, DT is doing some recording in Tennessee (not the old CB studios but near there). I have been in their studio and pretty impressive. Some of the former CB personell have been picked up by DT. I am using some of their stuff and so far my singers like it.

I asked Gretchen a few months back about the same question & at the same time extended my compliments regarding cb instrumentations. I asked if they employ the same musicians because I get that feel of the old distinctive cb quality sound I’ve been accustomed to. She said, “No, not the same musicians. New releases were done by very talented DT employees that hold down other jobs who happened to be good musicians as well. Everything done in-house”. Or words to that effect.

Doing a pretty darn good job, I might add. :)

Agree. Their site is crap and not user friendly at all. They could learn a thing or two from selectatrack and karaoke-version. Just let people find the song they're looking for and buy it without needing to "sign up" for anything. They also need to make their catalog public and let it be searchable on iCroons. I know people must be asking them for this stuff and they don't seem to care. I don't get it. They need to look at other download sites and realize the basic simplicity. On other sites there's no "sign up" required because the moment you make your first purchase, your account is created automatically. How are you supposed to browse their catalog and see if you want anything without first feeling like you're getting into some type of agreement with them? The whole thing just gives a bad vibe to the end user.
