A few days ago I posted a note asking for contact help for some of the manufacturers of Karaoke CDs. I received a reply that there had been a reply to my post -- but the link is no good and the original post is now gone? Here is the automated reply:

Yeah, it had multiple web addresses & contact information for the manufaturers in that post so it was probably deleted because we aren't allowed to HELP in that manner as it may "conflict" with something here.

Here aren't the links to a selection of music tracks I
have recorded and produced in the past months. Most of
these are 'snips' of the actual songs, the full length
versions are available upon request. These are all
multi-track files recorded in my studio 'in the style
of the actual artist' . Since every instrument and
backing vocals are on individual tracks the mix is
completely variable. I am also capable of providing
synchronized .cdg files if there is a need for that
kind of service.
When I do reproduction recordings I use one of
two methods. If the original track is extremely
stylistic I will actual map out a beat for beat tempo
map so that the Karaoke track exactly follows the feel
and flow of the original. Somewhere Over The BLEEEEEP
is a perfect example. The original track was recorded
in live concert performance by Martina BLEEEEEP. Listen
carefully to this file and you will notice that I am
switching on and off the original track with Martina's
vocal (and band) in a layer over my track. Its a good
demonstration of how accurate my track is in
character, sound timbre and feel:
Somewhere BLEEEEEP The Rainbow / Martina BLEEEEEP (Live)
BLEEEEEP/mp3/some_snip.mp3

More typically I just match up the average tempo and
record and produce a file very close to the
original.Georgy BLEEEEEP is an example of this. I just
finished this track a few days ago and haven't yet
recorded the sassy female backing vocal.
Any Volunteers?
Georgy Porgy / Toto
BLEEEEEP/mp3/georgy_snip.mp3

I used MIDI - sort of !
BLEEEEEP or Without You / U2
BLEEEEEP/mp3/without_snip.mp3

I spent nearly 15 years working with rock, alternative
and progressive rock clients like BLEEEEEP Coverdale, The
Smashing BLEEEEEP and Yes. I really enjoy producing
these styles and feel I am best suited for them. Here
are a couple of current reproductions.
I Hate Everything About You / Three Days BLEEEEEP
BLEEEEEP.com/mp3/hate_snip.mp3
Buried Myself Alive / The Used
BLEEEEEP.com/mp3/buried_snip.mp3
Like A BLEEEEEP Audio Slave
BLEEEEEP.com/mp3/stone_snip.mp3
Wish You BLEEEEEP Here / Incubus
BLEEEEEP/mp3/wish_snip.mp3

And some classic rock examples:
Sweet Child Of BLEEEEEP Guns N Roses
BLEEEEEP/mp3/sweet_snip.mp3
Purple Rain / Prince
BLEEEEEP/mp3/purple_snip.mp3
Hot For Teacher / Van BLEEEEEP
BLEEEEEP/mp3/hot_snip.mp3
Don't Stop Believin' / Journey
BLEEEEEP/mp3/dontstop_snip.mp3
You Shook Me All Night Long / AC-BLEEEEEP
BLEEEEEP/mp3/shookme_snip.mp3

Some tracks seem to take forever... and others, well
this one churned out in less than 6 hours, start to
finish:
And I Love Her / BLEEEEEP
BLEEEEEP/mp3/loveher_snip.mp3

HUH? :?

Okay, I am really confused?

I realize that you are trying to be funny but somehow I missed the point. The "BLEEEP" didn't make any sense. My question is are you trying to sell your services... It would appear so to me. There are several reasons that we do not allow self-promotion or the sale of products or services in this method in the forums.

If you have any questions regarding this please feel free to contact me.

it seems he was being sarcastic and making a commentary on censorship (which explains the beeps)... instead of deleting links why doesn't the admin (or site advertisers) answer member's posts with answers and links of their own??? you allow people to answer questions that are made in the forum (and I am sure it hurts the advertisers feelings when someone recommends someone other than them) why does it surprise you that they post links that may answer a person's question? or steer them in the right direction? if your advertisers have a better solution or product then make the case for them... the members are simply posting from their experience and research and passing the info on... maybe the advertising department needs to follow these links and convince the companies to advertise on your site and solve this conflict LOL for what it is worth... your mileage may vary...-tig

I think a better way is to clearly identify the sponsors and the products they sell/distribute. If the link is to a product that none of the sponsors carry or services they don't provide I think it should fly because there isn't a conflict with the sponsors. If sponsor X sells widgets and I can get them from non-sponsor Y for $10 less per widget I agree the link should get axed. As for bobcats post, yes, I understand the sarcasm regarding censorship and it was humorous. However, it is an ad to offer services and should/would probably get axed. There is a classified section to post items like that.

I'm eagerly awaiting Phil's guidelines on links and similar posts so I know what I can and can't post (as far as links go).

Tig... absolutely... that's the reason I said to explain or modify the posts.

There is no real apparant clue as to who their sponsors are. Other than the one link I see at the top of the page!

the only other thing I can see to fix the "problem", matt, is to not allow members to answer people's questions and to limit the only people who can answer posts to the admin or to the sponsors... how many members can name the site sponsors off the top of their heads? keep on singing- tig

Bobcats original post wa simply asking for contact info for manufacturers so he could call them himself & see how he would go about soliciting his services to them directly. He was soliciting nothing on this site originally.

That would fix nothing, as a matter of fact it would make it worse in the manner that it would be very one sided offering no alternatives. Sponsers would only recommend stuff that they sell only - even if it is ####, sorry - rephrase, "not up to most karaoke companies standards". The admin could answer but has better stuff to do with their time than to research the answer to the question, understand what each product does that will help & then figure out who carries what & how much & when they figure out that the sponsers don't carry the product that will help, then they would say sorry, it's not available or it is available but since our sponsers don't carry it, I can't help you further - look elsewhere (because that's basically what it like now).

I was referring to his current post - not his former post.

I saw his former post and even commented about some other manufacturers he didn't have listed.

Lonman is correct about this being the problem now. The strength of a board, especially one offering technical information/assistance is the vast membership that responds to help. I use a SoundCraft mixer and really like the line. Lonman has experience with a variety of equipment (far more than me), others here typically use Mackie mixers. Same for speakers, some like JBL, others Mackie, or other brands entirely. It's each of our own experiences with a spefic product, product line, or a solution to a problem that provides a reason for those needing techincal assistance coming back. I 'could' go to my local stereo shop, but they'll only offer what they sell. I was lucky in that the store I talked with in Fairbanks carried a number of lines, and even though they're not a dealer for Soundcraft they happened to carry a couple of their products.

Phil has stated that he's working on the problem. Clearly defined guidelines on what is and isn't allowed are what's really needed. If those guidelines are tied to the sponsors then a list of sponsors and what lines/product types they carry would be beneficial to the members.

you and lonman are both correct- that is why I put PROBLEM in quotations because the admin only sees this as a problem... members don't see it as a problem because we are simply posting links to help people or answer questions... if the sponsors have a superior product or service I suggested they get on the forums and answer the questions directly or the admin can answer in proxy... guidelines won't help. IMHO, because there is always gonna be someone who thinks they got the shaft if their link is deleted within the guidelines- either allow them or don't seems to be the options available and if the site admin owes it to the advertisers to remove possible conflicts then I guess we know the answer to the million dollar question... I just hope kool-aid's competition isn't a sponsor or my signature is history... -tig

The issue is that right now links (active or as text) get axed and we don't know why. If there are guidelines regarding the posting of information to products then we know what we can and can't post. Yes, there may be a grey area where we disagree, but a set of rules for us and those deleting the links is what's needed to put us on the same playing field.

I help to moderate a car related board with well over 20,000 members and we get complaints, but they are few and far between. Why? We clearly define what we allow, some sponsors are active on the board, many of the sponsors are well known and come highly recommended by those posting on the board. It's not exactly the same I know but knowing the rules about what we can and can't do allows us the chance to try to meet those guidelines when we do post links.

On another note, it also gives the sponsors to understand what is and isn't allowed so they don't complain either. It's a fine balance but I'm willing to work with it... in the meantime I'll stick with make and model information and hope they know how to use <insert well known Internet search engine here that rhymes with froogle>. Hell, if I have to I'll link to the sponsors if they carry the product(s), I just need to know who they are...

Like Lonman I've been around on this board a while. I can totally understand not stepping on the toes of the sponsors of this site, After all they pay the bills.

I've bought several fairly high priced but fairly discounted products from a few sponsors here.

I know that in the past, Links to diagrams or pics were acceptable.

Perhaps there were unacceptable links contained in the pages whos links were posted? Just a guess, BJC
