We try to help each other here right? So you ask a question, I answer, or I ask a question, you answer. Up to now not a very difficult concept

Then you/I go through some trouble trying to help, sometimes with a reference, and BOOM............the URL is gone, or sometimes the whole answer has vanished into thin air.

It happened to me twice today, and don't appreciate it when I try to help, that my stuff just vanishes.

What's up with that? I'm not advertising another company here, just trying to help? Is there a point in this?

I'd like to know that as well. I can see dropping ad links, but if it's a safety issue or answering someones question, that's crap! Or if a post is completely out of line, then I could see it as well.

I've been expressing the same complaint as well...

As a moderator on a large car board I understand the need to keep the signal to noise ratio down while still allowing them room to express themselves to keep the people coming back. It's a fine line to walk and I understand that....

However, when the products are safety related (thanks Lonman, I got the link before it was axed) and/or have no direct competition to the sponsors (ie links directly to manufacturers sites) I don't understand why they're axed. I'm a bit curious myself...

I agree - saw one of my posts in response to someone's request for a Macintosh hoster system axed -- there's only one and it's extremely alpha right now, what's the point?

:x Ok what is going on here? I show people where they can post links and BOOM gone. The place I posted for them to put links up has nothing to do with advertising.

I have read the BOARD RULES and it says this

“The Forums are never to be used to advertise or promote anything or anyone”

So basically don’t post any links because no matter what you are promoting. I still would like to know why you would delete (Edit) a post with a link that shows someone where to go for help with say there mixer or whatever. Most of the links that people send are helpful ones, and they are not trying to sell anything.

Please reply ADMIN

Thanks

Wow - sorry folks, been away.

Okay, let me try to explain...

First, the system has been set up to reject links automatically and convert them to just the web address. The reason for this was (especially in the begining) it was time consuming to review each post and delete posts with links. Some links are very helpful, I know not everyone is trying to promote their business, however many have tried.

Often links (or web addresses) are deleted by one of the staff because it is a conflict with the advertiser's on the site. The advertisers pay good money to have their links on the site and I know that the owners are selective as to which companies may advertise. In an effort to bring you the best of the best.

Sometimes the staff may get over zealous and just delete all links. I will try to establish some type of standards for links and see what I can do to allow the posting of these.

Another issue with regards to links is many post web addresses or emails in the signature - this is not permitted.

Let me see what I can do. If you have suggestions please PM me.

thanx

Phill

Here's a suggestion...

sometimes we forget that this is a site that's paid for... and yes, we may direct someone to a site.

IF that's the case wherer we're directly conflicting with an advertiser, then merely EDIT the post with any admin color with a comment:

**this url removed due to advertising conflict.**

or something similar.

I understand you have a business to run, but this is getting ridiculous with the other links removing. I don't see where having a songlist url needs to be removed, etc. As long as they're not hyperlinked, sems to me it should be okay!

Yes it should. Especially in a safety issue. Removing an address that directs someone how to seek out & safely remove a ground loop hum safely without removing ground tab or prongs is ridiculous.

A forum should be here to help others acquire the information they may need, & if none of the advertisers here carry a particular product that may help someone, direct them to a place that they can find the product they need - ever see Miracle On 34th Street (Macy's/Gimble's). I'm sorry it's wrong to suppress information just because it may conflict with an advertiser that don't carry certain types of items, manufacturers or products.
I like this forum very much, but it's almost not worth the time to help anyone anymore because you can't direct them to where they can get certain things. Even in PM's, you can't send an e-mail - that's just dumb - i'm sorry!
