hi, new to site and very puter dumby. i have a Dell precision 450 with exeon, 40 g hard dr, 1 g ram and samsung CD-R/RW SW240B burner. i would like to start down loading and burning my own cdg's. can you tell me if my burner is compatible with any programs out thereor do i need to change from Windows XP Professional. as i said, i'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer about puters, my last one was an etch-a-scketch, so please use terms a old guy can understand. thanks in advance for your help.

There are two ways to handle this - and it's dependent on your burner. I'm going to assume that it's not compatible with the subcoding for cdg disks. BTW, subcoding is a special part of the cd track that contains the graphics. Not all players can read and/or write this information, even though it's part of the red book audio standard (the standard defined years ago on the layout of the information on audio CD's).
To overcome this you can use Clone CD4 to burn the discs...
In case you're wondering, that's two seperate files - an MP3 that contains the music, and a file with the same name but an extension of .CDG that contains the graphic information (that's what's on the subcode mentioned above). You can purchse them at a couple places online or even order custom discs from a number of manufacturers.
Note that you'll likely have to purchase some software to burn the discs or another burner that's CDG compatible if you want to do this regularly. IIRC Clone CD4 is a trial that stops working after a period of time.

Plextor is the major manufacturer of audio/video products... all plextor cd burners recognize the subcode for karaoke discs
Cavs has a downloadable cdg player... I've not tried it yet.
There are a few shareware programs out there that promise to play them off the computer drive. I personally would rather rip them to mp3g and then just have them for the next time you need them.
PM or email me for a free (winamp) player for those!

Winamp by itself does not display the cdg info, you have to go back to the winamp website and download the cdg plugins. There are 2 of them, one to play mp3+g and the other to play cdg. After that you can pretty much pay anything.

and when I download these do they go automatically where they should or do I need to place them there into the program...??

when you download the plugins they will be install files. you run those files and it takes care of putting the necessary things in the right places.
