Post subject:  Multitrack settings ?
Today I ran into a problem with Adobe Audition ( CEP ), I've been having soundcard/software problems the past couple of days.Now it appears that I've gotten THAT figured out,however NOW I'm having trouble with Audition. When I record a music only track I insert into multitrack as the first file. Then I go to record a second track (Vocals ONLY) and the second track records the vocals ok , but it's now recording the first track as well. So in effect I allready have a mix of both tracks without doing a mixdown , therefore I can't manipulate the second track alone ( add effects , amplify etc. ) any suggestions ? I've searched for this problem on Adobe's help site but I don't find this problem addressed . Help :oops:

Sounds like another soundcard or windows sound setting issue to me. I have never used CEP (or AA either), but it might have it set to record 'what you hear', (if that is possible)

I use and Audigy external to push sound to my home theater, and it allows you to record 'what you hear'. When using Audacity on that pc, I have the option to record 'what u hear'... which will record the microphone and wav sound and anything else that is making noise on the PC (msn messenger sounds, line-in from DVD....) all the same time.

Try going to your windows souund settings and selecting microphone as your recording source. Or Maybe there is a utility program for your sound card that is the issue.

Thanks Paint...You were right on the money , it was in sound recorder,not exactly windows tho' , I recently installed an Audigy 2zs sound card , and today reinstalled the cards software ( including a recording program all it's own ),that's where the record in setting got messed up. Thanks Buddy , ya' made my night!

hiya dogg, yes i think it is a setting o ur comp.rrrr if ur useing an external mixer....a friend of mine had the same problem the other day....and thats what it was....his was on his external mixer....check both ok....i hope this helps a little...if not post back we will get u singing again in no time my friend.....

I use the same card the "ZS" not a bad card for the price eh?
I use an External Mixer to keep any tracks seperate... I have to Take my Main Outs then input to Sub Outs 1 & 2. 8)

I hardly ever use the solo thing though... too much fussin' :)

Glad ya found an easy solution here man! kool beans!

While we are on the topic of Audigy and EAX console... I have a question.

Do either of you have timing problems between what you record while singing along, and the song file after an import to audacity/CEP? When I'm done, the recorded vocal track is quicker than the song...I'm talking more than an offset issue.

My only solution is to record the sound file as it plays (with 'what u hear'), then the mic in separately. However, this method is a bit more time consuming and I lose a bit of quality compared to directly importing to Audacity.

Hiya' Paint , I have used audacity , but not in multitrack recording. I haven't had THAT problem in CEP though. about the only problem I haven't had , lol.sorry I don't have any suggestions for ya. Can you record all at once with no problems?

Yeah, All at once works just fine and is so easy. I like to do the sound and vocals separate though for balancing the mix.

For now, I will just record the back track as 'what u hear' to get the timing set with the vocals.

You can multitrack even when you do the vocals and music together.

Pan the music all left, and vocals all right and seperate after recording. You can then create a mono output from the two combined.

FYI - You'd have record through a mixer to do this...

I might have the solution for you? What you need is a software that will play your Karaoke file & will let you record the vocal track only coming from the line in of your audio card! The trick is to have that file well syncronized with the original audio track you can than open both files with Audacity. The software to do this is call Karawin!! It has a wave recorder that is perfectly syncronised with the play.

Now, you have my secret!!

*Remember to prepare the audio track on the proper key before recording your session with EAX Console because it's the audio file you'll be using after with Audicity! Each Key changer have a different key range even if you set them all at -1 for example!
