Hello everyone. I've been DJ'ing for a few years, but i'm just now branching out into karaoke. I have a couple questions for the veterans on this board: I've managed to buy around 600 cdg disks so I have a good start on my library. However, I would like to find some more recent releases. Where do I go to buy songs from 2012 or even 2011? I'd like to find a large selection at a decent price rather than buying one disk at a time. I'm not sure I can spend $10 per disk like i've seen some places. Any suggestions? How in the world do you attach a flat screen TV to an on stage speaker stand? Is there anything out there that can attach to a flat screen and then slip over the top of the speaker stand? I'm sure i'll have more questions later. Thanks |

I recommend Chartbuster's "Best of The Year" releases. Although they are basically out of business, I'm sure that you can find them. I'd say they are the best value you are going to find. They have 100 song releases of each genre, or they also sell splits - where you can buy only 50 at a time (Volumes 1 & 2). Someone on here pointed us to Target.com - last time I was there, they had some of these available at a much better price than other sites. Also, be sure to check Ebay. |

As far as the TV goes - are you saying you want to hook up a TV to your speaker? That I can't help you with, but I'd recommend a professional TV stand. You can buy them from a variety of sites, but they are expensive and you can do just fine building your own. You can make the bottom from wood and fashion a mount using a piece of sheet metal (available in various thicknesses from Lowes, Home Depot, etc). I made all of mine from the same $10 piece of sheet metal I bought a couple years ago. |

Thanks everyone for the replies. I've done some more searching on ebay and i've found a few things that look interesting. Is there anyway I can know which manufacturers are good and which ones are lousy? In my limited experience, i've learned that Sound Choice is good, and SGB is not so good. I've found a set of disks from Fasttrax (country and pop), but I have no idea if they are any good. Any idea how I can find out which ones are good enough for a professional show, and which one's should only be used for the kids at home? thanks. |

There are bad songs even from the almighty sound choice. Personally I find them to be as good as most out there. Most people have no clue whatsoever about manu's of karaoke. They could care less. It really is what people think is what the song should sound like from what they heard on the radio/cd. Yes there a few who want only sc and they get upset when you don't have it but after traveling cross country and seeing and hearing LOTS of karaoke I can tell you that most just don't care. As long as you are a decent host is all they really care about. All they want is to have a good time usually with friends. Each manu has their good and bad. You need to listen to each to find the one that you like better than the others. |

As for other brands, like PyrateSilly just said, there are hits and misses on all of the brands... even SC (but SC has been noted to be the most consistent). I would look for DK (discontinued brand over 10 years ago), Pioneer (also discontinued over 10 years ago), Pocket Songs, Dangerous (the first 7 in a series of (I think) 11 discs), Zoom (UK brand), Sunfly (UK brand), Legends (decent brand), Panorama's Top Hits Monthly (out of business since 2008), Stellar's Pop Hits Monthly (now under the brand, Sing It Now), ChartBusters (for Country (they just went out of business a few months ago, and there's a lot of it available on e-bay by the ex-owner/s), All Star Karaoke (decent brand). There are many others. This is just for starters. |

From the FastTrax disc I heard, it sounded like they copped Sunfly or SBI tracks as the Adele disc someone brought in matches musically with the Sunfly tracks of the same songs. Graphics on the other hand are very elementary (like created by a 6th grader), hard to read, tend to garble up and swipes were off. Whether this is indicitive of the whole series, I can't say, but that one disc would not be one i'd list in my books. |

Well, the 6 that I had bought (and then immediately returned), were all Country hits, and a lot of them were out of synch with the word-swipes. I agree... it looked like they were made in a basement somewhere by some kid. |

Thanks If you’re referring to an OnStage Speaker Tripod Stand SS Series - I’m sure you can find these at Home Depot: piece of sheet metal cut to 8 x 8 inch bracket, drill 4 holes aligned to back of tv, attach to metal round tubing & insert it at the top of your tripod. OR if you still have the upper shaft adaptor tubing that comes with your tripod, use that to attach to your bracket. But if you have a few $$ to spare, go with the professional look. Depends what size of flat-screen you are using... If you're talking about a singers' video monitor of around 20" or less, an ordinary music stand works like a charm for me... I'd re-think the LCD on a mic stand idea. It's my opinion it would be too top heavy and I've had several mic stands go down with and without mics on them. If you cold anchor it, maybe.. |

I have been using a mic stand for 3 plus years and never had a near fall let alone a full knock over. Just in case I use 1 strip of gorilla tape over the front tripod leg. I used a versa bracket, that tilts, to attach the tv to the stand. I hammered the top 4-5 inches of the mic stand flat, and drilled two holes for mounting bolts to attach to the versa bracket. I put rubber caps on the ends of the tripod legs to keep it from skidding and also to assure that the legs are contacting the floor at it's longest point from center (widest base). It also folds up very compactly to about the size of a small snow shovel. I would use this design again in with no reservation.

Don't want to scare you Lon, but you get an absolute bingo here. An exact match. I guess if one likes Sunfly ( not a favorite of mine) it's fine, but either way it's a dead on copy. |
