Post subject: | Sweet Georgia Brown Problem |
I fill in as a host at a local bar 1 night a week. I also have a small karaoke system at home just for fun....here's the problem. I have bought a pack of S.G.B. CDGs and they play fine at home but only audio comes through at the bar. I have a 2 yr. old JVC single disk player and the bar has an older JVC 6-disk pack player. The bar owner told me he's always had problems with SGB disks. Anyone else run into this and is there anything I can do to get these to play there? I do have a karaoke software burning program, so if there's a way to burn a copy and make the changes needed, I may be able to do that. HELP!!!! 300 songs I can't use there. Thanks ~~Kurt~~ |

I would try to use a rf modulator... and hook up via coax rather than the rca connection. Other than that, I have no idea why only the SGB discs won't work. |

Well ....I did encounter this problem once....I went to sing at a place and I got up there and ooooops music no words....The KJ informed me it was an older set up and had the same problem you are describing...So, it is a valid problem...I am curious if you copy them if the problem would exist...Very interesting...I guess it would cuz a copy is a copy..... |

Thanks......I'll look into the rf modulator....it is an older karaoke player...but it IS a karaoke player...anyone know if SGB has a www site? maybe I can get some ideas from them. A few other times people have brought in their own disks and they only play audio as well....I never looked to see what brand they are. The bar owner has been a KJ for 12+ years and is very knowledgable as well, but he can't explain why just the SGB disks are different. it sux.....any other ideas would be appreciated though |

I had this problem with some discs I took into one place I was singing. I ripped the discs and made VCD's from them. They played fine on the same player that wouldn't play my CD+G's. If you just want to be able to use that disc at that location it's a possibility. |

I got to thinking and I'll check this Wednesday night....The bar's karaoke player is hooked up via coax, mine at home is RCA jacks. I've seen a modulator ( or whatever ) that allows you to go from RCA to coax, but do they make one that goes coax to RCA???? I can't think of any other reason these don't play there. I'll check into this and post the fix. If I figure it out and leave a reply in case someone at some other time runs across this and needs the answer. Together we'll figure this SH*T out !! Thanks to all who replied. |

Is it a six pack system meaning there are six disc in a cartridge or is it a 6 disc cd changer If it is a cd changer you will need a decoder to see the words |

I have the whole sgb set thru 55 anyway and never had any trouble on any player ... Without posting my resume when I ask for the make and model # I might give some productive advise Make and model #? |

OK OK ....I give....It's a JVC XL-GM 800 It is a karaoke player... it's only Monday.....I'll check the coax idea Wednesday. The bar owner puts the lyrics up on 4 other Tvs in the bar besides the monitor for the singer(s). I know it is running through coax to all the TVs including the monitor. I am going to take a 15' RCA jack down and go directly from the Karaoke player to a TV's video "IN" around the corner and see if the words show up there. If they do...or don't...at least I'll know if it's the player or the way it's hooked up...stay tuned for final jeopordy and place your bets and answers.....to be continued...............[/b] |

OK...here's the deal. The bar has a video camera aimed at the singer. It puts the video feed behind the words instead of just a colored screen. On the back of the player there is a switch that says " superimpose". I switched it to OFF and the words now can be seen on the screen. Now you can't see the singer behind the words, just a red screen, but at least you can now play SGB. |

I've reaearched thia problem and it is a common problem with this player & SGB's because they use a black background. The video proc is looking for video and doesnt see it because the peak video(black background) is actually below black level and doesnt see it. I talked to a tech that works on those units and he says he has to turn off the switch off any cd that uses a black background. After all that and I still cant help you If I was there I'd drag the video out of the mud but anyway I guess sgb's wont work...... Sorry I cant help |
