No, really I don't. But sometimes things happen that make me the bad guy. And that sucks.

Tonight I was in the final stretch of my show - 20 minutes to go - handfull of singers that have waited an hour and a half to sing, some of them wont get to.

A regular shows up and asks if he can get a song in. I shook my head no. Before I could say anything, he starts pouting like a baby and storms away. No big deal. However, I see him going around the bar b*t***ng about how I wouldn't let him sing.

This is someone that knows better.

This is also something that has happened before with people you'd never expect do it.

I was to the point where I almost went up to and inform him to stop it or else he would be banned from singing at my shows for a while. Luckily he came up to me and apologized. So it never got to that.

I don't understand why people get so upset when they can't sing. That doesn't happen when I am playing with a band. People just enjoy the music and move on.

If you truely waited 2-3 hours and I accidentally skipped you, then I would understand being upset. But in this case there is no reason to. It's just sad that some people take this form of entertainment so seriously.

Anywho, I am off my soapbox now.

The people listening to the band can't get up and sing with you.....like karaoke. Plus, I think the bouncers would get people off the stage pretty quick!

However, I do feel your pain! It happened to me when I took over a friends show (it was last minute, and this was my FIRST time ever hosting a show).

This drunk guy came up to me toward the end, and asked to sing. He was new, and the rotation was still pretty small, so I let him. No one cared it was all good. Then when the night was close to over (you know, last rotation speach, blah blah), he came up to me and started asking my why I wasn't playing, and that I should keep going, and that it would benefit my COMPANY if I kept playing.

Well, I just told him it was done, and then got one of the servers to come and watch him. I should have told him I would stay for $100.00/hour LOL!

I don't know why people get mad. I guess you are just offering a service and they expect you go offer it to their needs (not the fact that the bar does close and you do have to go home sometimes).

You will always get jerks like that.

That's when you hope the bar staff will back you up because if they don't - yep, you look like the jerk.

PapaBear has always told his singers - "Look - If they wanna come and sing with you and your band, it better be on a open mic night. The gig is yours and so is the cash. If they wanna audition for the crowd, tell them to hire thier own band, but be nice about it. That's what karaoke/track shows is for, singers without bands."
