When pop idol first kicked off I thought this will destroy karaoke.Because it concentrated on how bad the singers were and for weeks it went on but fortunately it all seemed to turn around as we saw contestants getting better week by week as they developed on the show. Now I found more and more youngsters getting hooked on karaoke and the future looks good.Has anyone any thought they would like to air on the future of karaoke and does it look good to them too. |

Not sure this topic is in the right forum, but if not I guess the mods can move it. I don't think the popularity of karaoke has much to do with TV shows featuring amateur singers. To the extent there's any connection, it probably makes it more popular, especially when they have a lot of bad singers, since many people watching will think, "well, at least I can't be any worse than so-and-so who was on TV." I'm actually surprised that so many karaokeholics like shows like American Idol, since the shows are exclusive and focus so much on who is the best (or worst, as the case may be), whereas most karaoke is inclusive and noncompetitive. |

I can only see shows like pop idol helping the karaoke scene as more people gain an interest in singing. It is certainly helping the vocal tuition industry (so my angelic vocal coach tells me). I personally like to watch such shows as I prefer to learn from other peoples mistakes, rather than unknowingly make them myself in public. |
