There are really quite a few good speakers out there, first powered or non-powered is the first question to ask and of course the next is $$$$. i personally use JBL eon 15, they hold some power and are quite clear, furthermore they arent that heavy to lug around and have a built in handle on the sides. for the money, a good bargain. But for bigger venues such as large clubs, block parties etc ... i also have a pair of Crest Audio LQ-15's which I feel are probably the best speaker on the market, for numerous reasons they hold a huge amt. of power : 1000 program, 2000 peak. They have replaceable baskets, use 1/4 inch and speak-on connectors. these speakers kick any speaker butt out there!!! I prefer non powered speakers cause i feel u get a cleaner sound with seperate amp and mixer. Well if ur pocket can handle it and you have a good back to carry these things then go for the Crests they are worth every penny!!! |

I don't know that there is a "best" speaker. Quality does matter for sure - JBL (I use the powered EONs), Yamaha, Mackie, Peavy and others can sound great. Obviously though, the KJ has a lot to do with overall sound quality. Subs are a necessity as well to fill the sound, IMO. Don't skimp on the speakers and microphones. |

Depends on the $$$ you want to spend. If I had the money I would be using JBL SR series speakers & subs with Crown K series or Macro series amps. It's all in how much you really want to invest. There are speakers that work out ok to get you going to speakers that will blow everything out of the water & sound like you are listening to a live band quality. Most (not all) feel karaoke don't need the high $$ stuff so they go to low to mid grade equipment because prices are generally better & can still yield good results if run properly (high $$ stuff needs to be run correctly as well - this is just common sense) & with the prices that MOST shows pay, that is another reason. Speakers are also as good as the amp(s) that's driving them. Good speakers really don't mean much if you have underpowered or cheap quality amps driving them, good rule of thumb is to get an amp that will push double the RMS/average power handling of your speaker. |

I just Purchased 2 sets of (small) club speakers for karaoke, I just can't stay out of the business. I just bought a matched pair of JBL SRx 3 ways on the top with a pair dual 18" subs and powered by QSC amps, I trusted my Retailer on that one. They actually are pulling a "deal" on that one. So I have no clue on the model yet. I have the SRx boxes now and are using my Crowns with them. But I won't see the QSC's til after NAMM. The second set is a set of Cerwin Vega "Vision" series 3 way VIS-153 tops with a pair of VIS-36 Folded horn Subs and those will run with my mackie amps with little adjustment until I get the other amplifiers. but right now so few shows.. so much equipment.. AGAIN... There is alot of great stuff out there as Lon implied it's how long ya wanna wait to attempt to recover your initial and continued investment.... |
