Post subject:  Standard speakers vs powered

I currently use Trace Elliot standard speakers with a seperate amp amd mixer, which gives a great sound, and excellent clarity.

Its recently been suggested to me tho that I could get an even better sound with a couple of powered speakers, like the Mackies or Yamahas...

Anyone got any thoughts on this?

Especially any one who's tried both setups (standard and powered)

:)

Not really sure what you have, as long as i've been in music, Trace Elliot has always been geared to bass & guitar amplification. Not too much into PA speakers or amplification - if any, I don't recall any.

So I would say yes the Mackie or JBL powered will most likely sound better than what you have.

Lon is totally correct..
Gibson USA distributes Trace Elloit (a Guitar Mfgr) I'm still checking on this, and to the best of my and my retailer's knowlege, who is an AUTHORIZED Gibson/Trace Elliot Retailer, Trace Elliot DOES NOT put out FOH speakers or club models for that matter.. But that was preliminary info. I'll update when I get a final word.

As far as my personal recommendation for powered speakers..

Either JBL EON G2 W/Sub or Mackie 450's .. I personally Like the overall quality of the 450's over the G2's.
