Saw this mentioned in one post, wanting some opinions on the pros and cons of this.

Pro's; legal way of getting a hold of the entire library of chartbuster karaoke.

I see one con: you're stuck with one software to ulock it with: Compuhost (which is not much of a con in my opinion since I use it). It will play on any mp3+g software once unlocked.

Danny my understanding is that you have access to 11,000+ songs. I would think compuhost has more songs than that. What about new releases?

So, if I understand this... you pay $199 for the Externall HD with all the songs but have to use Compuhost and they give you 50 free credits to get started and it's $5 a credit after that. When you unlock a song it's yours.... no more $$$ due for that song Correct? Obviously there has to be an upgrade downloaded monthly to get new songs

correct, but the credits are only $1.80 each if you buy 25, or $1.50 each if you buy 100. one credit = 1 song. only buy what you need when you need it. nto sure about the Compuhost for me (good program, not quite as customizable as i needed it to be personally) but aside from that, sounds very cool.

It's $1.99 a credit if you buy just one credit. You can add new music as it comes in by downloading it (which by the way is the only time your drive needs be hooked into the internet).

New releases are added when you hook the drive up to your Internet machine. they have not been unlocked until you connect with your player and have exercised your credits for those songs.

I think it's a great marketing idea!
Especially for someone just starting out with no library. You could actually print a book and start a show with nothing but your credits and the cost per show would go down as your singers do repeats of their songs.

For someone who has an established library and just needs updates it's probably not such a great deal considering the cost of the 500gig hard drive (kinda small) that you probably don't need. That brings the per song cost for the first fifty songs up close to six dollars each, eight if you need to buy their software.

Still a great marketing idea.

I feel kind of betrayed, once again, by Chartbuster.

I understand that technology changes and as a result, so do the product delivery methods. In an age of piracy, CB and other manus have turned to KJs to help root it out. I have personally been approached by one manu to become a reviewer in my area. However, I declined to do so because they were not even willing to reimburse me for transportation expenses to follow up on one of their leads. It was at that time that I found out that the manus were using KJs to increase their sales, not just to root out pirates and punish them. I would be cool with their efforts if they essentially put them out of business, but instead, they offer financing options to get pirates legal. Now, instead of the legal KJs having to worry about the pirate that infiltrates and saturates the market, thus driving down our pay, we now have to deal with legal KJs who can start up for $200 instead of the thousands I (and every other legal KJ had to pay) for startup music.

And for this, we can thank Chartbuster.

I don't think they intentionally betrayed you, but it does appear that they didn't have their existing long time customer in mind when developing this. Since May last year I've purchased about 6,000 songs many of which are CB and had this option been available then I would have definitely went that way and purchased as needed as oppossed to buying them the way I did ending up with duplicate tracks and songs that'll probably never be sung.

Some sort of CDG credit or buy back would be nice to see, but doubt that'll happen.

The $200 doesn't give you the entire library ready to use. Instead they have to unlock the songs before they can use them. They only give you 50 songs to start out with. Not enough to run several shows off of if you get singers who like to sing different songs.

Don't feel betrayed since you will not be able to use the entire library until you actuall buy enough credits to use them.

This now delivery system seems to be a good idea. I am going to take a look at it because it will be simpler for me to do updates on new songs I want 1 at a time instead of buying a whold disc or sd card just for 1 song.

Should I feel betrayed by LCD since I paid over $2300 for a 37" flat screen and now I can by almost twice as much tv for 1/2 as much money now?

I gotta say, I'm interested in having access the the Chartbuster library, but no way would I ever run exclusively CB at my shows....

With all the pirates out there, I see what they were trying to do.... but... I don't want to pay that much for a USB hard drive, and then have to buy songs after.

No place to access just the songs eh?

As I read it, it's just another source available to you. You certainly are not restricted to play or add just CB!

And as for paying that much for a USB drive, remember, you also get $100 worth of credits, so to enroll in the program including the drive is really only apprx. $100. Not too bad to have immediate access to that many songs. I guess opinions differ...

the other plus i see is that they are coming from the original media before being dropped to CD so there is no ripping, totally clean graphics and audio.
i agree, if it was limited to CB that would not be cool, but they just kinda mingle in with your other stuff. not for everyone, but a great idea for new delivery method besides CD and SD.

But unless you have Compuhost, it's worthless. I won't use CH, don't like it.

Hmmmm... I was under the impression that you were restricted to the programming they put in the hard drive, including player software... They really don't tell you much about it.

Ok.. I'll bite.

Any idea how big this hard drive is? They don't say anything about the stats on the site.

Oh wow... okay.. I get it now. No internet connection needed. Holy slow lol.

Hmm... looking that again, that might be good for purchase at a later date.

What is the storage capacity of the USB Hard Drive included with KJ Media Pro HD?

Presently the storage capacity is 500GB. (Subject to change)

Lonman you only have to use CompuHost to unlock the tracks. I'd prefer an alternate method for unlocking songs, but at least your not stuck with CH.

Absolutely? Your new unlocked selections are fully compatible with any MP3+G capable player or software application.

OK, and if you don't have CH to unlock the tracks, you are SOL. Unless they can be 'unlocked' with the CH demo you would pretty much need to purchase the program & that is not an expense that i'd make just to have a program to 'unlock' the music just to use on another program.
