I have a mixed pair of speakers EV T52 2-way and JBL TR series both have seen better days. I currently have a Crown Power Base 2 amp running the speakers. I'm sure by using different speakers I'm not getting the best sound possible and that's what I'm hoping to accomplish. And also get my system more mobile (lighter) |

Personally I don't like the sound of the B-52's. The Crown amp you have is a little dated, but has a good power reserve rated at 310 watts per channel @ 8 ohms, 385 watts per channel into 4 ohms (both continuous ratings) http://www.crownaudio.com/pdf/amps/101229.pdf JBL SR series speakers would be ideal match for most any Crown amp, but these are actually a little out of most people price range. Take a look at the new JBL JRX series. These are a low budget alternative that retains the sound quality of the SR series but they sacrificed power handling in order to do so. Your amp will power these with no problems. http://www.jblpro.com/JRX/index.htm They are very well constructed, have a trapazoidal design for multiple speaker arrays, they can be bought for permanant installs with built in fly-points, they aren't light @ 61 pounds for the 15" 2 way, but by no means the heaviest for the sound quality. Lighter speakers tend to sound boxy & lack bass response - as a rule, there are occasional exceptions. This will be cheaper than buying the active speakers & sound as good. |

Bob, B-52 just announced the availability of the Matrix 2000. This has the bigger 18' sub and two smaller speakers. You may want to check it out. I have never been a fan of the JBL TR/SR series. Being a regualr mobile dj, I have two of the b-52 SR-18x's and they truly pound. I would suggest take a listen and go from there.... Groovielou |

Micbob.. I have tried them.. B-52 Has a reputation as a dance or DJ speaker. i really don't know alot about the new matrix 2000, but i do possibly know a working installer that has heard them or knows them, or can give you a name of a place where you can demo them yourself... hit the "PM" button and personal message me if B-52's web don't have a retailer locator at thier web. and I'll try to help. I have had success in taking out demos of product to do live club tests. |
