For years I used your common every day mic clip.. you know, the kind that they generally toss in with the mic. About 10 years ago I got into those.. uhh.. I always called them 'alligator clips'.. the kinds you pinch at the bottom and they open up. I liked those.. but the springs would fall out from time to time.. or the clip itself would break. When I still used wired mics for singers and used a stand, singers would slide the mic out and the clip would 'bite' the mic cable.. and seems like the singer could never understand how to release the cable. Switching to wireless mics and ditching mic stands solved that problem. But I still need a mic clip for my booth mic, and after breaking my most recent 'alligator clip', I ended up buying a 'Shock Proof' mic clip from On Stage Stands 'My300 Series'. The clip itself is a kind of hard rubber.. supposed to be unbreakable, and comes with a lifetime warranty. Been using it now for about a month.. so far, so good.. but it got me wondering.. what kinds of clips are you guys using? |

Regular mic stand clips. Nothing special - I try not to use the hard plastic, the softer plastic/rubber type seem to hold up better. Part of the business is - they break. Happens with running sound for bands too. |

For wireless mics I really like the ones that Shure clips (the ones that come in their wireless kits or are available separately - WA371). They allow you to "snap" the mic in and out rather than having to push it through. Additionally, they are very durable, soft enough to be flexible but strong enough to hold the mic firmly. I've also used a similar mic clip from a company called Roehl I believe. I have not found them online but a local store here carries them. For standard mics, I'm not nearly as choosy, pretty much any standard mic clip does fine for me. I've got such a varied collection from all the clips that have come with different mics that I can't say there's any one in particular that I prefer. The Shure ones are nice, so are the Audio Technica's. I have to say I don't like the Alligator clip style like you mentioned. I knew a KJ that used those and the mics were hard to put in the clip and they often fell out. I never really trusted those so I stay away. I've also used a clip like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000PH ... HTWXHZQ0V8 that I've seen with different brand names on it. It's a complete POS. You can snap the mic in and out but the plastic is so hard that after a short amount of use they break. Not good. Hope someone finds this helpful. |

I like the soft-rubber wireless microphone clips for all mikes. I find that people "get" them, and find it easy to slide the wired mics in. |

Another vote for the soft rubber clips, they don't (usually) break when the stand gets knocked over. |

I use the rubber shock proof ones as well. I have had my first pair I bought for over 2 years and they are still in use. I also have some of the hard plastic ones but quit using them after I found the rubber ones. |

For karaoke I don't use any all mics are wireless. When we do sound support for bands we use whatever comes with the mic when we buy them. |

Another vote for the Shure rubber wireless clips I have some that are going on 20 years old and have had regular use the entire time. I bought one of the aligator (hard plastic) clip once (out of necessity, forgot my mic stand bag) and it didn't make it through a 4 hour show before it was broken. for wired mics I like the rubber Shure, Audio Technica, and Peavey clips they all hold the mics securely, the hard plastic styles that are also sold under the same brand names I do not care for at all. |
