Lat week, I decided to travel around and catch up on the "Flavor" of a few karaoke venues. (No, I won't name any names)
PM me if you really need to know.

I did start the week late, (Wednesday) but I had a positive experience. Although the crowd was thin, I did get to sing right away, and the sound was good so all was well.

Thursday was the problem... I stopped at a club on Hawthorne Blvd, and even though the start time was listed, (8.00 pm) the equipment was set up, and the start time had passed, the KJ was in the kitchen munching, and patrons were just sipping their drinks with a bewildered look...
I left. :?

Driving west, I stopped at another club. The place was PACKED! No seats available at all. Again, equipment was setup, KJ missing in action.
And yes, past the listed start time. I left... :?

Heading south, I stopped at another club, and as I was a few minutes early, I sipped on a ICDB and enjoyed the Basketball game for a bit.
(Is it just me, or are the players too tall and the baskets too low? What is the great challenge?) :?

When the KJ arrived, it was the same gal from Wednesday.. SCORE!
The sound was great, the rotation was tight, and all was good with the world. (And she let me sing too) :D

Friday, the best evening to get out and about, I raced north from my abode to a club I had not been to before. Of all things, I met KJSammy himself. What a nice guy, and great KJ.

The crowd was eclectic and all, but what the hey... We're all adults here, right?

Sammy was a great host and KJ, and he seemed to enjoy the kamikazi karaoke style whenever it slowed up a bit. What a hoot..

And, he even let the old guy sing... :D

So to recap, for thse who are ADD or such, three nights, 5 clubs, and I got to sing in three... Score... 8)

Hello, God...

(I allways wanted to say that... ) :D

Perhaps I should have said "In the area".

And yes, if I can drive to Phoenix, Vegas, Flagstaff to sing, I can hit the B.I.O. and sing a bit.

I'll try to do that this week... :D

Jerry, the not being ready on time thing always P'S me off, if the sign says 8:00PM, you better be there, setup and ready to go....

I let my friends slide, cause they are ready to go, but may only have 2 singers in the rotation till the rest of us decide to look through our cards

Well I went on vacation and there was no karaoke. I went to a Bluegrass Festival, but Country Girl got sick and missed most of it. Ended up in the hospital.

I wish there would have been karaoke, cause I sure need to sing a song. Ended up settin' at a campfire by myself singin' sad songs.

The places you discribe....we have so real winners too....

One place has it set up so the singer isn't even in the same room as the patrons and other singers. One reason why no one is in the room but you and the KJ, it's no biger than a walk in closet.

It's just toooooo strange....

This is one of those things my wife and I always get into it about - starting on time. She has seen enough shows that start late that she thinks that's the norm and no big deal. I did 25+ yrs in the navy and being late is always a big deal to me. I like to get set up and ready to go 30-45 mins early, and have everything checked out. That way if you should run into a problem, you have time to work it out and still not be late. It's kinda like the old bit about having a flat tire on the way to work. You should be able to get the spare put on and still not be late in my book. Once I'm set up and ready, I won't start 45 mins early, but if the singers have songs in and all (and management has no problem with it), I don't mind starting 10 or so minutes early. It's another example of one way to make loyal followers because they know you care about them.

I'm a pain about starting "on-time" If the shows don't start on time whether it's live, karaoke, or corperate conferences, Time is money! And I am anal about giving my client's what they pay for. If they are paying $400.00/hr + for Audio or AV, It better be a first rate event. and it better start on time if not a few seconds early.

In short my crew is ready and in place 45 minutes before the time to start an audio or AV event and therefore it better not be on us that the show is late. In karaoke it's not uncommon request slips usually start coming in as early as 30 minutes before start time.
