It seems this is becoming a 10 giving site, just like another that i know of.
i personally would like to rate honestly, yes i know this is suppose to be a site just to sing and have fun, but i think we all know its much more r should be, i believe alot on here want to learn, i know i do, but with nothing but 10s and (ur great) comments not alotta learnings going on....i also gave my fair share of 10s but this site needs to be more then just stroking ego's.
I for one could care less about revenge rateings, i pretty much know what my songs should rate and i think most do..and its not always 10s, ok maybe never a 10, who cares, i had rather have comments on what i did wrong r what u didn't like about my singing anyway, i take low ratings with a grain of salt anyway, if u think i'm a 6 r a 10 i don't care, post what u feel, with a comment explaining why the rating high r low, thats all i ask.......

(I WOULD LIKE FOR ALL THAT WANT TO BE RATED HONESTLY BY ME, PLEASE LET ME KNOW BY POSTING HERE) i'm not out to hurt feelings, but i know people r dieing to learn and there not....

I feel that when i honestly rate someone, i tell them whats good about there song first, then next i try to tell them what i feel could be improved and maybe how to do it, if i know how.... then before i leave i try to again let them know that there doing a fine job and that i did enjoy there singing, I'm not here to tear people down, but to have fun and enjoy this site, and help others if i can by being as honest as i can, but at the same time being nice about it....

this is a singing site NOT a recording site, SO I RATE SINGING ONLY...
but i will say the better u sound the easier it is to rate fairly.... THANK YOU

I would also like to add that for me a 10 is not something to dream about, but it does have to be without 1 flaw, again only in singing....i was reading from someone that he thinks a 10 is something playable on the air waves....come onnnnnn, i hope ur kidding, I to have had dealings with recording studio's... the singing end of it not behind the mixer....but surly this person knows they spend many thousands to get ur recording sounding the way it does.....if thats a 10... then there r no 10s on here....and to me thats...hmmmmm whats the word i'm looking for...oh yea...stupid....to even think that that level of recording can be done here....jazzybaggs comes the closest i feel on here, but yet her sound is far short of top studio's....demo's yes....i'm not even sure why recording comes up in rating, sure tell them they need to improve there skills help them if u can with there recording, but take points off i don't think so....yes a bad recording sometimes makes it hard to rate there singing...if that be the case don't rate just tell that person nicely that u can't rate because there recordings suck...i mean ..... not very good......

I'm going to address this.. as I personally feel this is addressed in my direction..

In these subs.. I don't use the technology you speak of to submit on here. I use the VERY SAME "Freeware" recording software that Old Paint does.

I personally Use NO additional processors or outboard effects.. ALL my effects, compressors and processors are plug-ins and are also "Freeware". The ONLY THINGS that cost the real money are my Monitors My Karaoke player and my Microphone ($300.00) and audio interface and the audio interface is cheap too.

Now... If You & the rest of this showcase wish start a "recording quality" urinating match.. I'm sure the many Technically qualified, & Singers that Can Afford it will be happy to ablige your every wish.

I did for a while call it like I saw it.. and it started a war..

In - studio Songs for Subs...I will Personally be happy to use available "Studio" time to do several "Protools HD/192" songs and submit them and pay to upgrade so I can put up 5mb files. And I'll do EVERY song from scratch and buy license to them. But remember who started it.

Personally I think you need to learn how to use what software and recording tools you have Just like I have. As it's not how much it costs.. or How far in debt you can go.. but how good you can make your system sound and the person that is recording on it sound and how big of a profit you can turn each year.

I have been mixing live audio since the late 80's, it's hard it's hard not to know how to record & equalize and produce recordings after doing music and large events for that long.

i do believe you said that for you to give a 10 it would have to be playable on the air....we both know what gets played on the air don't we?
songs recorded in pro studio not home comp. recording for singers showcase, do you feel with what the average joe/jane has on here that they could get there song played on the air?...because thats what you hand out a 10 for....

Bum, you may record great in ur studio, but the recordings i have heard for you don't sound so great on here, r maybe its just ur singing...not sure...i'm not a pro like you..

as far as rating honestly, you just can't go around telling people they suck, find something else to do....i have read where you tried to rate honestly, and the back lash you got from it....did you explain why you gave them the score you gave them?....i mean telling someone ur flat doesn't say anything...tell them where there off key at...quite a few people really can't hear where there off key.... i have a friend the same way....you point it out to him and he will agree most times....if a person doesn't agree with me thats fine...its jmo anyway...some people don't have the nack for talking to people i believe ur one of them...again jmo...i don't have the nack r talent rrrrrr ear for studio work...other then singing. ii will rate farely, r i can just comment , doesn't matter to me...
what matters to me is there r alotta people on here that want to be rated honestly with comments on what there doing wrong r right....most on here know its just an opinion,

mic to sing on here....is that a cheap mic? not for here its not....take a poll on the cost of most mic's on here, they want come close to 300.00....

a recording artists plus many others life depends on what comes out of a studio, for new artists there r no second chances, its make r brake time, and with that much money at stake they do not look for bargain prices, they don't shop for people with statements like welllll its not how much it costs..... they go to the best and they pay the bucks...big bucks...

I'm going to take a deep breath...and do what I do with Artists who don't get it.

Here's where the "Fair ratings" come in... there is a thread on this forum that is posted weekly. called "BEST PERFORMANCES OF THE WEEK"

Post your choices for the top 5 there. The 10's and ratings don't mean squat there.. a bonus song is awarded for the most consistant choice for the "Best song" that choice if a tie is made by the admin.. and tha admin is definately unbiased.

Hummmmmmmm PFTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT seems like a fight here ... can i say something please... well im not gonna wait for a response... i have read everything here... this site is supposed to be fun right... i think personally when i rate i am quite fair... and if i think someone is really putting theirself into a song it will be rated accordingly... The songs dont have to be perfect to the artist at all in my book just show the emotion and the enthusiasum that they diserve... and to rate a song on anything less would be a tragic mistake... Granted there are those out there that can do a song perfectly... and are rated accordingly... but off key just a bit and bickering about the way a song is done just dont make sense... Karaoke is fun... treat it accordingly... I dont know about anyone else here but i do it for an escape... its my relaxation... its not a job i dont get paid and if i did i would starve... So please relax and have some fun ... thats what its all supposed to be about... As such i believe i will continue to rate how i have been... preformance, emotion, and sound all come into play... if i dont like how something is the old saying if you cant say anything nice dont say anything at all comes into play...

Your quite welcome but like i said im just a bit upset here about the fact that things are going this way... I started singing karaoke for the fun of it... not because i wanted to be perfect and i think alot would agree with me out there... its supposed to be fun ... when it becomes work its time to pack it in... if you cant have fun and enjoy what your doing then you shouldnt be doing it at all... when it comes down to it... these singers out there that are getting paid... they have a love for music... so do we but we dont get paid... However, that dont make our love for music any less... Keep having fun and keep the submissions coming because thats what this is all about ...

The intensity of that "discussion" was keeping me on the edge of my seat! but...(back to the topic) I just wanted to say ( being a newbie) that I too am guilty of ranking higher than appropriate at times. I believe that respectful critquing will be appreciated by most people but lets not get carried away with perfection because lets face it, its Karaoke--HELLO!!. I won't be offended and I would like to hear what people really think if they want to tell me. If their personality is blunt when giving comments thats OK too. Thats who they are. As for the recordings, people try and do the best they can given what they have to work with. Recording is a technical skill but you should never compromise the art of performance. Personally I submit/listen for fun! but I also listen to the recording job. I rank the singing/performance for the most part but I will make comments on the recording at times because its part of what we are all doing - Recording it to download!! Lets all lighten up!!

On that note i think i will shut up... however, billy... hun you are amazing i always love listening to you... the thing is now with this thread i think however i will stop ranking because evidently i am not seeing things at your leve... I dont actually think a rank makes a singer... I feel that the emotion and enthusiasum in the voice makes the singer... who is to say that the original artist was right with the emotion... if people hear the song for the first time and love how its done hun what does it matter... Who sets the standards for how a song is done... we do i guess because we have heard the song before... But going back to previous comments here i believe people are looking at this all wrong... I have written a few songs in my day and dont have the music for it yet ... whats to say the way i want it sung will be right who knows... but i believe that we all in our love of music express our rendition of that song ... there are plenty of songs out there done by the original artists that i dont like but when someone else sings them it sounds much better and i grow to love the song... again hun i love your voice and i really think you have what it takes... however my opinion dont matter so ill shut up now...
