Karaoke Scene's Karaoke Forums :: Mixer may be slowly dying may need recommendations

Well i'd try new cables first, but that is exactly how my channels died on every Behringer i've owned.

Ok I have a behringer 1222FX mixer that has served me quite faithfully, but lately when I plug in to the main outputs via XLR cables, there is an INCESSANT steady hum that is quite loud. Plus every now and then if the cables get bumped, the music will cut out.

I'm thinking the conectors might be lose, which means new mixer.

I don't have a lot of money, especially since I'm not working at the moment, but I would like to have something available if I find the work.

Eventually I'd like to get something that would make digital recording easier. *I have had several singers ask me to record them, but for the life of me I can't figure out how I got the last one to work and sound so great*

If you're happy with what the Behringer gives you from a feature standpoint, I would then recommend the Yamaha MG124CX. It gives you all the same functionality as the Behringer you have now plus a simple compressor on each of the first 4 mic channels. You can get one brand new for under $300 so that should help your budget concerns. The MG series is a good lineup with decent quality (will sound better and be more durable than your Behringer) and a nice feature set. As bang for the buck goes in the compact mixer market, I'm not sure you can do much better.

Too bad you don't live near me. I have a used Mackie 1402-VLZ Pro for sale. I upgraded to A&H so I am trying to sell it on local CL but no one is biting. What do you guys think it's worth now days? I have rack ears for it as well.

I have it on CL for $250 and I am not even getting a response for it. This is an older model and says it's made in the USA. Maybe I should add that to the ad.

The first thing I would do is try some new cables. Cables do go bad, especially cheap ones.

Guess I should have mentioned, I've already tried several sets of cables including a set that work perfectly fine with a friend's equipment.. -James Also I would rather save up if I have to and get something halfway decent i probably couldn't afford top of the line but I'd be willing to settle for mid-range

The latest model of that same mixer now has USB connections and built in compression on the channels. That along with on board EFX and graphic equalizer make it a great mixer for the $219.00 http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pr ... sku=485371 The Mackie Profx12 could be another choice for you. What is your TOP budget as there are always better and more expensive alternatives

If I`m going to have to spend money anyway I would like to get something that is more durable and will likely last longer. Eventually I would like to get something that has subgroups easier to setup for recording multiple singers but I`ll worry about that when I am actually working. thanks again. Just for the record for those that asked, the most I would be willing to spend is $600. I`d definately have to save up for that, but if I found something I REALLY wanted, and came highly recommended, I would be willing to wait and save up for it.. -James

It's funny to see you have made the same changes I did, I got the Zed 14 to replace the Mackie 1402-VLZ and the improvement is major but I ended up keeping the Mackie I tried selling it at Tony's suggested price but everyone kept asking if it was the China version and once I said yes, no one wanted it I'm keeping it and still enjoying it's qualities, doesn't sound like the Zed but it's still a good board

I would, it might help a bit. However the issue still may be the fact that it's just not a very well featured board for either live or recording purposes. They seemed to have tried to bridge a gap between the two and ended up with a console that isn't particularly well suited for either.

Yes, I really suggest you do say "Original" built in the USA, it should sell much faster! I found it easy to use as a newbie and I would recommend it except for one feature. It's not rackable. Keep that in mind.
