Always headphones

"None of the above". I have no headphones or such, so I just "rare back, open up, and let 'er fly" as they say. So, I only hear myself live. Unless I do the old fashioned thing and plug one ear to hear myself better. I'll have to check into some of these gadgets that make people sound better. As I said before, I have generally always done bluegrass music, which is totally unplugged, so other than a live mic I've never had any other help with sound. And I have a seriously outdated karaoke system. So, I guess I'm just a little behind the times.

It depends on the environment and the conditions, and equipment available. I have a set of Dual Driver In-ear Monitors made with a High & High-mid Bias in them custom molded to my hearing loss due to audio exposure to high volumes before I was smart enough to use ear plugs at the Front of House mixing position and in small clubs when mixing live acts.

I really love the sound of these custom made necessities, as they are my mainstay for my work. But I can still and do use a Processor that corrects the loss frequencies made by Rane and it Expands, Limits, Equalizes and has a 5 band parametric eq and compresses as well provides reverb if needed. Just for that mix but not on the recording. It's not a inexpensive item at street cost of $800.00 USD. The Model # is MM42 I do also use this with my headphones too.

I do record live in shows as well in rehersal. Where live monitors & stage speakers (side fills) are used. as well as in-ear monitors as well.. so it wouldn't be uncommon to hear these tracks submitted.

In my studio I use a set of 6 Genelec Studio monitors in surround sound,
in the Sonset Beach studio we use 5 real killer JBL Studio Series Monitors. All are great sounding and really I can't tell the difference. My mixes get the same result.
