Post subject:  PC Based Karaoke

Hi All,

Just 3 months into my karaoke hosting experience I am seeing a need to lighten my load and I am thinking of making the switch to PC-based karaoke and mp3+g's.

I just added another night to my schedule and I may be up to 3 nights a week by the end of tomorrow. I am thinking I can lighten my load considerably if I rip my cdgs to mp3+gs.

What do those of you using this method use for software, both hosting and ripping?

and

I know the mp3 compression scheme omits sounds that can't be heard by the human ear, but can anyone out there notice a quality difference between cdg and mp3+g?

Thanks!

Patrick

TRY it.

Have a .wav file on your computer... and play it.

then play the very same file as it's converted to .mp3.

There is a distinctly audible difference. But I feel it's acceptable.

I use a program called TriceraSoft CDG Ripper. There are other programs out there that do pretty much the same thing.
You can:

Rip to BIN
Rip to MP3+G
Rip to secure KMF
Rip to sharable KMF
Control Ripping speed
Quickly rename tracks using a common Base name
Lookup track titles from the internet
Lookup track titles from a local database
Select Lame or Blade encoder at various settings

There are quite a few programs out there for playback. TriceraSoft makes a couple different ones. PCDJ, MTU, Winamp. to name a few.

http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/KARAOKE/ Heres an address to quite a few Karaoke programs.

Hope this helps.

I am using Hoster by www.mtu.com and am very happy with it. I can play a karaoke song from a cd, or the hard drive, and can't hear any difference.

It all has to do with the software, hardware, and the compression. If host with a cheap program like sax & dollies, or winamp, you get what you pay for. Hoster is a Professional KJ hosting program, and delivers. it runs the rotation for me, makes the songbooks, and keeps the playlist.

Whatever you use, if you ever go digital, you will never go back to manual.

Thanks for the replies guys! :D

So, Sax & Dotty's Hoster is different from MTU's hoster?...hmmm.

I was also considering using the PCDJ/PCKJ software because I like the hardware controller. Anyone know anything about this program? It looks pretty good.

All these programs work fine. PCDJ-KJ has a cool interface for those who care about these things. It allows you to switch between KJ and DJ instantly and transparently. It will not directly play CDGs. You have to ripp them and put them in a temp directory. A ripper is included. However the hardware interface for PCDJ does not yet work with the KJ version. Visiosonic says they are going to make it compatible in the next few months but who knows. It is around $500 for PCDJ-FX and PCDJ-KJ with the hardware module. You can also get Sax abd Dotty's for $35 or use audiograbber and winamp for free. They all work. PCDJ has the most features.(sax and Dotty is simple and cool with the programable buttons for sound effects). There is also Hoster. It is $260 and does allow direct playing of CDGs with the CDrom players. (Plextor best)

I use MTU hoster, and they are upgrading it now where it will work with most all dj programs as well as they are working on making it play audio (dj) music, and vcd as well as dvd karaoke.

These guys are there for the Professional KJ's.
