Sorry about the stupid question. I have a computer and I have a component Karaoke/dvd player. What is the best way to record
myself and get it to MP3? I can record myself on cassette but
that seems like kind of a poor way to do this (quality wise).
Anyway, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Bill

the easiest way I can tell you is to get a small mixer, and hook your microphone and player onto that... then take the rca output up to a USB device, such as the terrific Creative Sound Blaster MP3+.
Then you can record it on your PC using their software that comes with the Sound Blaster hardware!

Why,
There is an topic I just wrote this last week on how I do this in the "Singer's Forum" this discussion has been replied upon by many of the showcase's top singers. it is also a great idea to mail or PM some other singers to ask them what they use. I have posted my preferences.. but there many other suggestions i can give you.
Good luck.

To post a song on the singer's Showcase it MUST be in Mp3 Format. All of us have to transfer it to that format from whatever format it is recorded on, whether it is .wav, .ogg, or whatever it may be. so it may be a great learning expierence for all to learn how some of us do it.. I don't necisarrily use a large studio to do my songs now when I used to do them there, but i do have a few sound card tricks, like USB interfaces instead of soundblaster cards.. even firewire is not used in my recordings for this showcase. because i can use far less equipment on the fly.

I'm certainly behind the curve on this stuff so I appreciate anyone and all who's willing to share information with me.
Thanks again

Why,
Then it is best you have an pro recording/audio retailer or studio engineer try to help you in a language that you can understand.

anyway, check out the soundblaster mp3 device. It's $39.95 retail, you may be able to find better deals elsewhere...
don't settle for less than pro audiio on the USB devices, and try to go pure RCA jacks, rather than the miniscule ones that are on PCs. The less hookups, the less interference.

Matt, I agree .. UNLESS it's a firewire connection. usually the preamps that are on the other side of the connections are as clean as they come.
BUT, most will not spend what it costs for those pre-amplifiers, or interfaces.
YOU ALL KNOW I WILL!!! Just because I can.
I am NOT doing it unless it will make me some money..

Oh I could care less about making money, Brian... I was just giving advice on how to hook up a standard player, or even a karaoke system to the PC... or vice versa.
Good talkin' to ya!
