Post subject: | External USB VGA Port and Extended Screen Compuhost |
I posted awhile back that my vga plugon my lappy was not working so I purchased a USB VGA plug. I can get the extended monitor to mirror but not as an extended monitor so the Compuhost external screen will work. Keeps telling me its not configured properly. Not sure what I doing wrong. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. |

I was the one that recommended the USB external VGA adapter. So which one did you get? Where did you order it? How much? How did you get it working to display the second monitor instead of mirroring the desktop? XP? Vista? Windows 7? Any other comments about how it works and how you like it? Thanks |

Thanks Thanks Stogie - It was really great advice since my vga port is part of the motherboard so I would have to replace the whole thing and I don't have the funds for that right now. Guess a new lappy is the future. But right now I did take your advice and ordered a USB to VGA Monitor External Video Adapter (Startech.com) from Walmart which cost me approx. $65 with shipping. Received it yesterday, loaded driver software and hooked up external monitor. Mirror work but not extended. Could not figure out why so I posted here and in the meantime was able to figure it out. Went to Control Panel, Monitor Display and there were three monitors listed. I disabled the default #2 in Windows which allowed to me acces the #3 that was the USB external. Hope that makes sense to you. Not sure how to explain any better than that. But the bottom line is my VGA is now working again thanks to you Stogie - My customers sure were missing the big screen! |
