Hello, I am new to the whole Karaoke/PC thing and have a quick question. I am trying to read a Karaoke CD+G CD using my CD-RW thatt came with my Dell Laptop. However it will not pull up anything as if it were a blank CD. Can anybody give me some pointers as what to use to be able to read these CD's? Currently I have installed PowerKaraoke and it tells me to convert my CD+G's, but I can't see them!
HELP ME!!!!

Thanks in advanced...
Suthern Comfort

Sounds like your drive isn't cd+g compatible. I'm betting you can probably play it as an audio cd, though (just the music and no words). To be able to use the drive to play cd+g's, it needs to be one that the manufacturer says will play cd+g (most Plextors are good for that). Maybe you might want to look for an external Plextor player/burner?

Will

P.S. Try looking at the Dell website for info on the drive (just to make sure). Most Dell's won't come with a cd+g compatible drive.

if you go to www.goldenhawk.com and look around, there is a file or section that tells you what exact burners are compatible for cdg...

if all else, contact the makers of powerkaraoke and ask them!

I think the best way to go is a Plextor external. I had an internal Plextor on my old computer and just recently got a new HP Media Center. The CD/DVD combo drive that came with it dosen't read CDG (Ididn't think it would). For temporary use, I ran a CDG player through the TV card that also came with the computer. I decided to get an external rather than transfer the internal that I already had. Now I won't need to worry about interchanging machines (ie my laptop). I think the others will agree that Plextor is the best for CDG although there are probably other brands, maybe less expensive, that will do the trick.

Penn, you can't get less expensive than $46.00 with shipping from newegg for an internal!! LOL! There is even a USB 2.0 Conversion kit I've seen for as low as $60!!

Not too shabby!

Not shabby at all 8) . Never thought of a conversion kit. I could have salvaged the internal from my old klunker. Too late now.
