What does everybody recommend for a beginning KJ, computer based software or the traditional CDG's and a player?? I know there are advantages to both, but what do you feel like the majority of people are doing these days??? |

Buzz If you are just starting out .. as a beginner.. stay with traditional CDG machines.. until ya get familiar with file conversion and the other goodies. that way the pc's and other nice toys can come later and you have some development as a host, and have the sound system well established, as well as the library. I wish ya well. |

Buzz, The advice that the gentlemen told you about Computer Karaoke would be factual, if you relied on just the free stuff out there for Computer Karaoke, but there is a program written just for the Professional KJ its very simple to use and all that have switched to it, you couldn't make them go back to the old fashion way of running a Karaoke Show. There is no file conversions to worry about, you simply load your music in the computer and start playing that disc in less than 10 minutes a disc. The name of the program Is Hoster, and yes it does make that much difference of any type of MP3 +G type of Karaoke program . If you want more information just e-mail me at djones193@cox.net Dave |

Dave I have Both Hoster & PCKJ. and I also Do corperate in your market.. for much higher than yourself and many others like you with several tons more equipment than your company does own. Still the media is required to be at EVERY show, and back up players are still a nesisicity. With most shows only using 6,000 songs it is nor feasable for a PC based operation to go there until thier 3rd year of operation, or unless they have 10,000 songs + and the licensure or permission do so from the manufacturers to copy the media to the pc's unless they own every CDG from Priddis. Sound choice will say "NO GO" So will Star Disc. Arizona is one of the many states targeted persently for media complience. My shows have been checked 2 times. Please keep it clean. |

I locked in on MTU because they are making every attempt possible to keep Computer Karaoke properly licensed and have spent tons on security to insure that the disc manufactures are not harmed by their product. That is specifically why, each song loaded has all of the machine information written in the header of each song, so it will only play on that machine. It would produce very little gain, to build a product that would damage the companies that makes their product possible in the first place. I can't verify this yet but I know that DK, Chartbuster, Music Maestro, Sweet Georgia Brown and Priddus are working with companies like MTU to work out a pay per song download that is geared to work with the Computer Based Programs. PC Karaoke is already using Sound Choice, because its a Sound Choice product, So bottom line, its very hard for them to say, you can't use your PC program to play this music its illegal, but my PC program is not, and your right Sound Choice in the past has been the first to cry wolf. However, of all of the big market makers they were the first to go PC Karaoke of their own system. The people that want to play in this market, do need to comply to the copyright laws, and I will not load the first disc that people don't own the original of. I strongly believe in protecting the industry. Just food for thought, DK, Music Maestro, Top Hits Monthly, Priddus, Chartbuster, Sweet Georgia Brown have for some time now allowed their music to be played on computer based systems. Dave |

Dave, You do have a point. I have only recieved permission from Priddis, Dk is a lost cause as they are out of business. I guess that leaves them a roll of the dice. If someone gets nailed i'll hear about it definately. Star disc says "No Way" I'm send off anothe round of letters to the above mentioned. although I'll get another "NO GO" from Sound Choice. or they will want money. That's fine i'll pay for it. I'll just buy the master tracks and do as I please to them. Hell, Even Doo Wop, Don't return calls on Bulk orders. Go figure! Thier loss I guess! They have lost over 70K in orders from My KJ's so far this year. Just in Retail. It pays for mailorders to return phone messages. |

That is exactly what I did, I have a few thousand master tracks that I key up myself, I had the intent to build custom disk for people under my own label Kustom Karaoke Studios, I am just using them in my recording studio for now, and selling a few disc here and there nothing big at this point. I had purchased the Karaoke Pro machine from MTU just for that purpose of authoring my own custom Karaoke label, because I too am very tired of someone else dictating to me what I can and can't do with the music I buy, as long as I stay within the licensing agreement of the master tracks, I can do what ever I chose with these tracks. I would keep it simple and go the CDG/player route. Some great deals available to get you started. |

I guess to be legal you have to buy the disc's anyway. I am starting out with the CDG's and a player. I was just wondering if I would eventually need to go the computer route??? I appreciate the responses. Buzz |

Everything progresses to automation eventually, and computer karaoke is inevitable. It saves haveing a lot of equipment to unload, and the wear and tear on the disc's. as well as the filing and miss filing of the disk's. Mine handles the rotation, I can keep 1 or 2 rotations ahead of the show. and if your singers sing the same songs night after night, it saves having to enter the song. you can save the playlist for the use next week. I can't see ever going back to the old ways of the cdg player and cd's since I have been using a computer. |
