Apologies if this is too basic. I got a new laptop recently, Toshiba Satellite with a Celeron chip and a matsushita dvd/cd drive, UJ880AS, so I could load all my cdg's and some neo-G's. I tried to use Roxbox File converter, the rip and zip, and then the compuhost ripper on a new Sound Choice CDG and all seem to say the drive can't read CDG data. Is that right? I have Windows Vista on this machine, but the software is supposed to be compatible. I went to Roxbox because it seemed to offer the option of converting the Neo-G's. This is a home, personal use, system, so I'm trying to keep the cost down. The laptop was only about $360 new, at Fry's. Maybe I'm about to learn how to install a new drive... Thanks |

Try Powerkaraoke ripper; it normally work when others don't. http://www.powerkaraoke.com/ |

According to this spec your drive cannot read cdg disks. So it looks like a new drive. I'd go for an external USB as a possible cheaper option. Most of the Plextor drives do cdg. http://products.panasonic-industrial.co ... J-880A.pdf |

http://products.panasonic-industrial.co ... J-880A.pdf I have a question about a computer also for home use karaoke. What should I be looking for when buying a new one so I can get my computer to work with CDG disks? I really need a new computer and I may buy new, or I may buy my son's computer (he wants to upgrade). Thanks! |

http://products.panasonic-industrial.co ... J-880A.pdf Maybe the more expensive ones but according to info I read Plextor is getting out of the CD+G capability arena on their ecconomically priced drives. |

I found that many of the LG drives support the CD+G format. Most don't now days but I believe there are software driver that will support many of the drives. I forgot the name of it but I have read about it in this forum. |

PowerKaraoke's ripper works with Most drives out there. So does MTU's Microstudio - only issue is you gotta name the songs yourself. PowerKaraoke will name them if it is in the CDDB database. |

I really need a new computer and I may buy new, or I may buy my son's computer (he wants to upgrade). Thanks! Several things. The drive needs to be able to read CD+G. Check the specs closely. This can be handled with an external drive unit too. Or the same way on your desk top. I would get an external hard drive for your music. It also must have the ability to have duel displays. Check in the control panel and go into Display and look for the second monitor see if you can activate it. Do not buy any computer that doesn't have this feature. You need this to put the singers screen on TV. Most desk tops i have seen don't have this feature. It's more popular on laptops. Back to the original question. Do you want to play cdgs on the computer or put them on a TV with a separate sound system? So many options and questions. ![]() |
