Anyone have CompuHost, etc. on one of these new genre of small laptops (NetBooks)?

The newest ones certainly have the specs to run the software, just wondering if anyone has experience with trying it out on the smaller screen. Most of these things weigh in at about 2lbs and start at about $300.00.

I run my CompuHost off of an old IBM ThinkPad, but was thinking about getting a new laptop or netbook. Whadda ya think?

I was thinking about it, but can't justify another purchase right now. I would think it would work but not be all that readable. They have a VGA output, though I can't state for positive the video chip and drivers can do extended desktop.

I will be very interested in this as well.

I'm not sure the new Netbooks have all the outputs needed to run Karaoke. I don't think they have s-video out and might not even have vga out don't know haven't looked at them that close yet.

I was also considering a netbook until I read this article by PCMag comparing netbooks to even a lower priced laptop. Quite a sacrifice in overall performance. Also, the netbooks I've found are extremely limited when it comes to video memory and performance.

Here's a link to the netbook comparison.

I have played around with netbooks running both Linux and XP.

I never considered using them for my Karaoke rig, mainly because of size and readability.

I need at least a 15" laptop screen to easily run my show. I bought a new Dell laptop (17", core 2, 3gb ram, 250gb hd, DVD r/w) about 3 months ago for $500.

With the price of XP netbooks hovering around $300 - $350, the small savings just doesn't justify the compromise for work use.

For home use as a simple web browser and basic PC needs, they are fine.

We have run Rox on the Acer 10". It would do for a basic backup or one to take on the road. With a docking station you can use any size screen you want.

I switched to ATT and found out later the Shack was selling the 10" for $100 if you switched.

Well yes, if you scratch AT&T's "back", they will scratch yours. They are offering one now for $199 with a new wireless contract as well. When you give them your business, believe me, they are getting the difference in fees.

And, true, if you (1) get a dock, (2) get an external LCD, carry all that around and hook it up, you can use it for a show. But why would you? Especially when you still need to worry about singer screens and possibly customer screens?

When you can have it all in a 17" or 15" laptop? I have even used a 13" Dell sub-notebook and readability was fine.

When on the road I take a laptop and hook into others systems and use the venues WIFI. It would be my choice for the road . In no way did I recommend using it to do shows. It is a natural for demos during consults or promoting your business.

I'm sorry I'm so stupid but I'm 69 and senile What is your excuse?

I cant justify buying one right now but I want one.

If outside doing an outside gig I probably would use my old DAW which is now in a tower.
