Hey yall,

I've blown my share of bulky subs over the last 5+ years. Anyway, I bought some DB Technologies SUB 12 subs about a month ago, and after driving them pretty hard for the last month, I wanted to let you know that they are EXCELLENT portable subs.

Each one weighs in at about 35-40 lbs or so, and they can be driven HARD. Now, they aren't going to blow out someone's chest like a 18" Yorkville, but if you need some good sub low end in a REALLY portable setup, I would highly recommend checking them out.

I use them in my portable KJ/DJ rig for outdoor and medium/small venues with Peavey PR12 mains, and they have been great. Two of them will fit in your front seat.

Anyway, just wanted to let everyone know that I stumbled across these things and they are kicka**!!

Great find Topher. I was at my favorite supplier today ( same place that shipped you those nice NX55p's Bob) and they happened to have one of those subs Topher was talking about. The DB Technologies Sub 12 which is part of their "Opera Live" series. I must say, I was impressed, very impressed. I have never seen anything so small in stature and weight put out so much nice tight punchy low end. You could actually feel the little monster(we only hooked up one). My buddy was with me and he was in the market for subs for his DJ company. He first listened to two used sets of the old entry level Yorkville Pulse 118 series subs hooked to a QSC RMX 2450 (didn't check to see if it was bridged). Anyway, that little 400 watt DB Sub 12 kicked the crap out of those QSC powered Pulses badly. That is a single DB Sub 12. It was a no brainer, my buddy is now a proud owner of one of those little rascals. If you are in the market for a small but effective sub, definitely check one of these bad lads out if you can find one. By the way DB Tech is a subsidiary of RCF (very reputable company) and designed and manufactured in Italy. FWIW: I have a sound engineer friend who has toured with several national acts. He claims that 12" speakers are the best for bass/subs as they are tighter and cleaner. He told me that larger isn't necessarily better as the bigger cones flex more and don't produce as much "punch". When I asked him about volume, he said "If you want more....just add more 12's." ;)

Thanks for the post! These look very interesting to me. My wife and I travel as light as possible for our Karaoke shows, and one or two of these would be the perfect addition if they are as good as you have mentioned.

The only thing that gives me some concern is possible warranty repairs.

I really wish I could find a reliable source in the US for these.

I've gone through about 3 different sets of subs over the years, and blown them all at my karaoke show under normal volume conditions. All of the subs I've owned in the past have had momentary clips under my normal volumes and bass levels, even with the sub amp run 1/2 open.

These DB Sub 12s don't even come close to clipping even with the sub amp run wide open. This would lead me to believe that warranty service may not even be an issue, as I'm not coming anywhere close to running these at max SPL in a VERY loud, very bass-hungry show (lots of hip-hop filler).
