I've been a KJ for about 2 years now, but I was a singer for 4 years before I got into the business.
Before I was a KJ I was also an amatuer magician for 20 years. I've also been in sales and managed a Radio Shack for 10 years. When I was in high school I use to play "roadie" and set up sound systems, tune the instruments, etc. being a KJ seemed like a natural thing for me.
I was selling cars when the economy started to tank, and started the KJ thing as a sideline. Soon, I was making almost as much money "part time" as a KJ than I was full time selling cars.
I made a change.
Now I have a part time sale gig, and karaoke is actually my "real" job...

.
So, for now, I have four regular gigs (mod, wed, fri, sat) and usually have 2 to 3 private parties during the month, and man how I LOVE this "job."
oop, one minor edit: I had formal music instruction for 9 years... both insturmental and vocal.... Middle, high school through college. Silly me forgetting something like that, but it WAS 22 years ago. Argh! I'm OLD!
