50 years ago today, Buddy Holly, JP 'The Big Bopper' Richardson, Ritchie Valens & Roger Peterson (pilot) were lost. I'm not gigging tonight but I'll have a large whisky and have them loud on the hifi.

I wasn't around for another 14 years after they died, but my life and the people I have met are all due to the places I have been. The places I have been are mostly because I play the guitar. I play the guitar because of Buddy Holly.

Cheers Buddy! :beermates:

It was in the morning and I was sitting in the car trying to get ready for the first class at CSU. THe radio DJ stopped the music and gave the news about the plane crash. All day nobody was worried about classes.

I sing all of his songs and is the only one I totally mimic and do it very well. Guess you could call me a Holly impersonator

I'd love to hear that karyoker!

I was listening to him all night last night & all day today. When I was a kid back in the mid 80s I had a weekend job in a fish & chip shop. I spent nearly all my money buying his old 45s & LPs from record collector stores, I listened to & learned all his songs every day. I still got the LPs, but I had all the 45s hanging on my bedroom wall and one day, my baby neice pulled them all off & destroyed them. Destroyed me for a while too!

I have to admit, its a long long time since I've done that, but its almost like discovering him again, pure magic.

Not fade away... No sir, not ever!

Us kids were excited and talking about Elvis Presley was going to be on the Ed Sullivan show. Mom said"Who is that?"

That was a real tragic event in rock history all right! Actually we almost lost Waylon Jennings who was playing in Holly's band at the time. But, the Big Bopper wanted to fly instead of Jennings. The Bopper had come down with the flu and didn't want to ride on the band bus.

And Tommy Allsop is alive today because he lost a coin flip with Ritchie to get on the plane.
