Well, I thought I'd start the 'official' Idol thread for the season, now that we're 2 weeks in on what I think the real start of the contest begins.
Week 1 was awesome! And I think America got it right, too. It was so nice to hear a fresh sound from Fantasia on a very beaten karaoke tune (Something to Talk About). There should be a couple good wild cards out of that group, too.
Week 2 was awful. So very disappointing. Usually my dear friend and I are inspired after watching idol to sing some karaoke, but neither one of us could bring ourselves to it! We're too old to actually enter the Idol contest, so we must live vicariously through these people. And life wasn't great this week!
Week 3 should be good. Looks like they've got some good vocalists in that group!
Side Note: Bring Back Scooter Girl!!!

I have better things to worry about than some rigged tv show.
Lots of people like it, and I'm not disrespecting them.
Anybody that can't see that they let on so many good singers and so many bad ones just for the publicity... needs to be taken out of the gene pool!
I personally want to see a show where the audience votes them in, not the judges!

My daughter likes it, but I can't see wasting my time on it. Got better things to do with what spare time I have available.

Ron,
Lets face the facts... Your daughter could win that competition hands down.. and also replace any one of the 3 Dixie Chicks in a heartbeat!
Not a half a**ed statement.. the honest truth.. Folks RoN's daughter Is one of the music world's 7 wonders. Too bad she doesn't record it. but I know her reasons, and I know many like her. and I can and will respect them for that.
The music industry is not a place for those who don't want to take a risk.

Sorry I prompted some negativity. Yeah, the show is rigid, and there are purposefully planted awful, awful singers put on in the beginning weeks for publicity. I don't watch that stuff. I can't stomach it. I would much rather go to a karaoke show and listen to singers that don't sing as well, but have big hearts and sing with them. Unfortunately, I'm a 9 to 5 'er, so I get some of my singing fix during the week through AI. I wish I was working nights again so I can hit karaoke every night!
At least in the current phase of the show, the audience does choose who goes into the top 12.
I take the show for what it is. I think we all know people who sing better, or some of us sing better ourselves! Heck, just listen to the Singer's Showcase!

I didn't take ya wrong... I was just hoping for discussion about the current shows content.
It's the only reality TV show I watch. Everything else to me is a waste of time. I completely understand why people don't watch it...my husband being one of them...

Last night's Idol was amazing. I feel bad for those of you who aren't able or just don't choose to tune in every-so-often. You missed the performance of a lifetime given by a lady named Latoya. Her rendition of All By Myself put Celine's to shame. I still get goosebumps thinking about it. If you're able to catch some of the highlights, please do so.
Out of the remaining contestants, I'm really not sure who I want to move on to the top 12.
