OK, I have Mackie SRM450 Speakers. These are 12".

Is the SWA1801 Sub overkill? (Besides the fact that it weighs as much as an elephant). I'm thinking the SWA1501 is more appropriate.

Tym,
Sammy was bein a nut!!! :P :rotflmao: Actually a Cashew!

No, In all seriousness... get a 2 wheel dolly to move the system and a real nice one not a cheap one!!! Or make a Set of Caster boards for the bottom that can be removed when you are at the shows... they should move the room nicely below 120 hz. I just looked at the specs. Actually they crossover great.

Post subject:  So......

Stick with the SWA1801, then? The SWA1801 arrives tomorrow. Dad is gonna see if the guys who is delivering it can help him get it into the basement.

Dad is gonna kill me, LOL. Oh well, it's only 136lbs. That's like, a refrigerator. Hence, the dolly.

Time to concept a dolly with hydraulic lift, or, plug the thing in by the truck when loading up, and let it thump itself right up into the back.

Stay with the 1801. It is not overkill. The system will sound killer.

This is gonna be sick.

I hope this system sounds good.

It's not really the "conventional" way of putting it together, with a bunch of components, because everything is pretty much integrated.

Well, we'll cross our fingers and see how it goes.

Here's what we got so far.....

Mackie CFX-12 Mixer
Mackie SWA1801 Sub Woofer
(2) Mackie SRM450 Monitors
(3) Nady (ok) Mics (wired)
RSQ DVD-505 Player (just 1 for now, but will have another soon)

Any other suggestions?

We are talking about getting a vocal monitor for the singers as well, but will probably need a powered one there as well. Any suggestions?

Seems like a short list of components, but it's a start I guess.

Many people buy powered speakers. There are definate pros & cons to them but that will go with any system. The main reason is the portability. The components are matched for optimal sound.

Look at the JBL EON for the stage monitor. May consider a compressor for the vocals.

I agree with lonman about the JBL's. I actually use the 10" version myself for stage monitors and they are great. I've actually had gigs where they probably would have been good enough to use as mains.

Apples to Oranges...
If you got a good price on the 450's stick with them... also I have seen some powered yahama monitors that are quite compact that deliver some great sound too. continue to do the shopping.. Also Peavey comes into play on powered floor monitors now too..

Well, I don't know how good the price was, but the equipment is good, and that's what counts to me. I played in a band for 10 years, and I can't stand a lousy PA system.

Just a few more pieces to go, and then it's time to start learning how all of this works together. The player should be in Monday, with the music following on Wednesday.

Tym,
If ya wish to recieve some assistance setting the unit up professionally and completely. Let me know. I will offer to assist you. Please e-mail me and I'd be more than willing to discuss it. Getting good sound with your new system is one thing... Getting a new system "right the first time" without wrestling it to death is another. 8)

I'll take you up on that when the time comes. Should be in the next week or so.

I also use a JBL Eon10 G2 for a monitor. Well, I haven't actually used it for karaoke yet, but I did use it with my band -- which is MUCH louder --and it worked very well.
