Because I am at a loss, I would like to know what one should do with theirselves when there is a long instrumental break between lyrics. As an example, the song Fly Me To The Moon, has a very long instrumental before it's time to begin singing again and to stand there, like a knot on a log, just doesn't seem to get it. What should one do . . . . what can one do to pass the time while EVERYONE and their brother has their eyes trained on the singer?

Bring up a chair & a paper, or do tricks, or go get a sip of your drink, or do a little dance, or stand there & wait until the next line.

do obscene acts to yourself. It's very funny for us spectators!

Harold,

The easiest answer is not to do songs with long solo passages. Remember most people go to karaoke to be entertained. With that in mind try playing the air guitar and look like you are having fun. Pay attention to what other singers do and if the KJ is good, they will help you out.

Peanutbutter and jelly sandwich...Oh wait, ya might have a mouth full of the PB and get your chops stuck just when the words come back up. Really though, maybe a sip of your drink (if its close enough), or the eye contact with audience. Couple of smiles, and move around a bit. Just remember no passing gas.

Sometimes, especially if it's a fun song and depending upon the crowd, I let them know each time the words "instrumental break" comes up and everybody has to take a drink.

Sometimes I take a nap particularly if it's a long night. Learn to make those litlle baloon animals, etc. Naw, I'm just foolin, I normally move with the music, display a few moves and then notify the audience, "I bet you didn't think this was gonna be full featured entertainment, did ya".

Main thing, have fun, that normally comes across to the audience well.

Good Luck,

What would "old blue eyes" do?

Probably snap his fingers look at the floor and bob his head slightly along with a little shuffle. Then when his cue comes he does a big windmill swing and points at the band and starts belting out the next line, OOPS, WAIT!! There aint no band. Ah just pretend the bartenders are the band.

Priddis is great for this... I have never personally expierened this BUT.. So I'm told..

They have made some Shortened Edits of thier versions Karaoke songs for "Competition use" and Christian Nelson may know more.. This is where he comes into play..

I have the Full Version of it on DVD but i know they will cut it shorter for ya.. if you contact them.. this is all to the best of my knowlege.

I don't know how long this post will last... but this also great info for Karaokefest singers too..
