OK, we bought our starter set of music last night. Here's what we got.

DK Millenium
SC Foundation 1
SC Foundation 2
SC Bricks 1-5
Hall of Fame 70's/80's
Hall of Fame Headbangers
SC Country Packs 1 and 2

I think that puts us at around 3400 songs (or so) of pretty good quality.

Now, the question I can't figure out.

How do you choose to go back and get the more recent stuff where all of this starter stuff left off? Will there eventually be another Brick that fills in behind the others?

My Dad is wondering how he gets the hot new country stuff that's been out in the last 3 or 4 months. And, for me, the pop/rock hits of late.

Where would you all go from here?

P.S. - I also ordered the PA, which is pretty nice. Although, lugging that Sub Woofer around isn't gonna be fun (that bad boy is HEAVY). I can see a cart in my future for that.

Any help is appreciated.

Good starter pack. You are going to have quite a few dups between the Foundations & Millenium & possibly some of the other packs (since they are also soundchoice) & the Foundation. You are actually probably going to be starting with less than 2,800 individual songs, but the core is very respectable that you will be able to add to.
The DK set cuts off around 97 or so & the Foundations cut off around 2000. The Pop Hits Monthly are great for current stuff but you should take requests from your singers before you buy. Try to get what your club singers want right now, a huge selection doesn't mean anything if the songs aren't what your singers want!

Lon,

By looking at what I am getting, is there something I should dump and replace with a different pack (600 duplicates seems like a LOT)?

I have had good luck with the Top Hits Monthly for new and popular songs, for Country, Rock, and Pop (and others...). Shop around and you should be able to get some great prices on those.

Absolutely great start..

THM AND PHM would fill great with some Chartbuster, Music Maestro, and Priddis versions of the more obscure titles.. to come close to near 5 to 6,000 titles and I believe you should be there.

Nice start. Very respectable. I don't think that's an excessive amount of dupes, when ya consider what ya have. Although you don't want any more dupes than ya have to have from here on out. I think I'd start updating now the the Pop Hits Monthly, or Top Hits Monthly, and some Priddis to get from where the starters leave off to now. Personally I prefer PHM over THM, at least for country, but that's a personal preference.

I don't think i'd replace anything, like stated, it isn't THAT bad of a dup ratio, but try not to buy more if you don't have to. All those packs have songs that will compliment the other. The Millenium & the Foundations are going to have the most dups between them, but there are other songs on each that one or the other don't have.

Tym,
Out of the 6,230 (or so) titles in the new system I am just completing I believe there are nearly 670 duplicate titles at the last count. and I tried to be very picky on versions. I have pretty much the same cores you do but my fillers are somewhat different. 8)

Well, it looks like we need to do more shopping.

The Pa should be in this week, then we can start learning the "in's and out's" of that.

We'll probably have a good $10k in this for starters, at the rate we're going.

I hope we bought the right stuff, LOL. (tried to keep it simple)

I exported the song file to Excel, and it looks like about 660 duplicates. That seems like a ton to me, but extremely hard to avoid.

But, updates shouldn't, if ever have a duplicate, if I'm not mistaken, and that's where we will be filling in with 90% of the stuff from here on out.

Tym,
I knew I was pretty close... You and I are pretty close to being on the same timeline on new music.. my whole 8th system of music is not here except the cores... everything has been shipped but not totally here yet..
I'm still using music from another system and another system to fill the gigs.. and now that I have completely got the 8th system now fully functioning it's keeping time like a Rolex.. It's nice to get systems that complicated "right" on the first run. especially the PC based things, & the digital audio things. even PCKJ dialed in the first time  no crashes!! The Tech did this one right for once the first time!! 8)
