Hello everybody... My name is Dax, and I wrote the book "Karaoke Karaoke Karaoke" (amazon.com, search DAX KARAOKE). I've been a KJ in Homer, Alaska for about 7 years now and I've never had so much fun... Homer being the last town on the north american road system, we are truly at the end of the road. We do things a bit, um, different up here, with Mondays being "Props Night", Wednesday we have a comedy contest/show around 1:30 AM (bars don't close till 5:00), and other even stranger stuff other nights. I feel pretty safe in saying that my people are weirder then your people. I could be wrong, but that would make your people virtually insane. In either case we're going to find out soon! .. because.. I am working on a new "toy" for all of you. Watch this space (And Karaoke Scene) for information about some fun ways to "play around" on your K stages! I love Homer. I can't imagine that it gets better than eating at El Pescador or Lands End and singing karaoke on the spit as you look at the view. Welcome! |

Ha Ha.. No, I'm not sure the world is ready for that... What I'm working on is a series of very "different" contests and competitions for not just the singers, but the KJs and the crowds as well... I'll post on a different KS forum where this is going, but I have a problem. After some (limited) research I am beginning to believe that most or evern all karaoke is illegal, or at least has issues. This throws a big hurdle in our way.. No major investor is going to back an illegal business - and if it gets popular, it'll be busted just for show. So I need your help. We need to figure out a way to make Karaoke - or at least some karaoke - legal. any thoughts? |

Hey Dax - Once you have the particulars worked out try posting in the Discussion forum about it. I'm not sure what you are thinking is illegal about karaoke. If all karaoke was illegal there would be a lot of us with orange jump suits on.
I'm not much for contests, but I'd love to hear your twist on them. I'd never put someone down for trying something new.

I've been holding my breath for so long waiting for your new ideas that I am turning blue. Now I find out that Karaoke is illegal. What next? It is an election year, maybe we can call on our candidates here in the US and ask them to legalize it if they get in office. |
