OK I got a nice computer for my music! Now for the DJ end its great! But for the Karaoke end I am sticking with my CD-Gs. Has anyone else stuck with the CD-Gs? Its working well for me! Just looking for some input here!!! 8)

I run computer for both dj & karaoke. I still have all my discs with me simply for back up purposes, but the computer is so much nicer. If you are comfortable using discs, then continue using them. If you have lag time in between disc changes, then you may want to run from computer as it can be faster in that respect.

Totally agree with Lonman here. WHile we may disagree on the software playing the songs, It has been so much easier to maintain a fair rotation by allowing the computer to maintain it for me. Even if you don't want to play off the computer, there is a program that will keep track of your rotation called KJHelper. the link is http://kjhelper.aesound.com/ It actually is freeware.

We were die-hard disc users until earlier this year. I have to say, running a show now is less physically demanding - reaching, finding, pulling, playing, putting back in case, searching, replacing....reaching, finding, pulling, playing, putting back in case, searching, replacing.... You get it. Easier and less time lost if someone wants to change their song or try another version (particularly true if you are a quick keyboardist and know your software). Quicker to locate a song....True, someones we have to re-rip a disc for one reason or another but that has happened 3 times in 5 mos. Not carting around 100 pounds worth of cases with CDGs in them. Don't have to replace a CDG if it gets damaged or grows legs.

I will add backup, backup, backup once you are computerized. Also, prepare for the time it takes to do the conversion. If you have 15,000 songs, thing in terms of six weeks of running a computer pretty steadily in free time.

We could both easily go back to CDGs without much of a time lag between singers...computerized is just a different way to do it. Less concrete - don't have a CDG in front of you. (What a waste of brain harddrive for me because those darned CDG numbers just won't get out of my brain...still remember song numbers!)

On the other hand, computer is MANDATORY for DGing. When I think about how I used to do it - man, oh man...how DID I do it?

You are already discless for DJ music; it won't be any harder to go the same way for karaoke tracks.

Just tested it on a vista computer and it runs fine.

Run your PC to the mixer via a mini phone plug to 1/4" plugs (or rca plugs if that is what your mixer accepts) like these.

http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/ ... sku=333055 fpr rca ends

Yes you would need some kind of karaoke program to run a show with. There are several to choose from & you can demo on your system to make sure it will work.

On PC's you'll usually have a mini phone plug line out jack on the sound card. Get the cable mentioned above that best fits your mixer & you hook it into your mixer. It is generally better to get a better sound card than what is built into the computer, but you can get the idea.
Laptops you may possibly need to get an external sound card of some sort. Some only have headphone outputs.

I found that I had better luck with a USB to RCA device than I did with the 1/8" audio... maybe 'cause my computer had a bad sound chip... unsure! The one I use is a discontinued model. I also on another setup use a Mixer that has USB inputs!!

For anybody else, I recommend the following:

I use the same device. Thinking about buying a second one to put with my portable sound system so I don't have to keep taking it off of my bar rig to run a show outside of using my main system.
