coping mechanisms can roll off the tongue my dear, but until one is faced with the dilemma for real tis easier said than done. 1. maintain your early morning routine of getting up and ready to meet the day head on (as if you are ready to go to work). Dont let your standards slide by sleeping in and mooching about 2. Network network network...not just online but use every spare moment to network with people. 3. Make yourself available for assisting charities. 4. Front up at other businesses and offer to do a day or two or a week or two free of charge in return for upskilling yourself above all Tom dont get discouraged. You are a wonderful person...I have been on the receiving end of your warmth. Love you lots xxx |

Sorry to hear about your unemployment situation Tom. I can relate to it quite well. Vicki has given some great ideas for sure! The only real obvious thing I could add is take time to do things you've always wished you had more time to do. On the lighter side, find time filling things to do before Liz gives you a long list herself! ![]() ![]() Take care Tom and best wishes! |

Tom I'm sorry to hear about your misfortune. ![]() First thing I'd do is apply for unemployment. Then try to look at it as an opportunity to do something new. Maybe go in a whole new direction. |

Tom, I can truly say I know how you feel and it is not good. I was let go from my last job at the end of April. I have applied on line for about a dozen jobs and mailed as many or more resumes. I took resumes to all three employment agencies in town and call them every week. I have had one interview so far and did not get the job. Thing is I only need one job and I will find it. Good news is that I have finished a lot of home repairs and almost finished painting my house on the outside. If you are like me you may have to fight off some feeling of anger and other negative emotions. Just dig in, stay busy, do some things you never have time for and keep looking. I truly hope you are able to find something quickly. Jim_n_TN |

Don't rule out temporary staffing agencies. A lot of good companies use them to try out employees before hiring them on. let them do the work for you to find a job. |

Tom, also check out your local Employment Department concerning the federal WIA program (Workforce Investment Act). This is a program that helps displaced/laid off workers find jobs and obtain federally funded job training if needed. Good luck! http://www.floridajobs.org/workforce/WI ... #WhatIsWIA |

Sorry to hear about that Tom... yikes, if I were to lose my job right now, I'd be up a creek w/out a paddle. (just don't tell my boss that, he needs to keep thinking he needs me... not vise versa) ![]() ![]() You'll find something, just be persistent. I quit a job a couple years ago due to a boss who was *slightly twisted*, and then had a hard time finding a suitable replacement job. Gosh, I did a bunch of this and that, kinda wandered different jobs not knowing exactly what kind of work I wanted to do. (took some pretty low wages too...) Then, my current job just kinda fell out of nowhere, now I have (IMO) the best employer I've ever had, we really get along awesomely (err... most of the time, Lol) Good pay, and I love what I'm doing. So.... Hang in there, something great will come along. In the meantime, yeah, like Odie said- do all those things you never had time to do before. |

Very sorry to hear about your situation also Tom. I don't know what I can add to what good advice your caring friends here already gave you. I do want to say that as a brand new member, I already have experienced, and felt what kind of a person you are. I do hope you are able to stay in touch with everyone. All I can do is pray that something comes your way in these trying times. Hopefully some good will come from all this. Ron |

Hey Tom.....Same thing happened to me about 4.5 yrs ago, except I knew it was coming because out of 98 people in our I.T. department that were let go, we had to train our replacements (company out of India) for the last 3 months we were there. They made the severence package to pretty for anyone to leave before hand. Talk about a lot of mad bitter people (including myself). I had found my dream job in every respect ($, benefits, co workers, etc.) I thought. After sitting home for about 2 months feeling sorry for myself I got a phone call one morning and long story short it was the job I have today which has turned out to be even better. I do realize that I was very very lucky that things turned out the way they did and it could happen again at anytime, so I do not take anything for granted. With our economy going the way it is there is no telling what any of our futures hold. Gosh, did I get on a soap box here or what? I wish you the best of luck Tom and I think that Vicki's suggestions on how to spend your time off is great advice. ![]() ![]() |
